Bury Town FC are very saddened to learn of the death of our former Manager Tony Godden at the age of 70.
Tony joined the Blues as manager in 1996 but was unable to save us from relegation from the Beazer Homes League and the club joined the Jewson League. He went onto manage the side for two more season’s before standing down to be replaced by his assistant Keith Vince.
Tony enjoyed a long professional career for the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea and Birmingham City, making a remarkable 228 consecutive apperances for West Brom between 1977-81.
He also managed locally at King’s Lynn before joining us and was part of the coaching set up’s at Northampton Town and Peterborough United.
Our thoughts are with Tony’s family and friends at this time.
