Bury Town Under-18s returned to action following lockdown with a topsy-turvy draw with their Histon counterparts, in which six goals were shared in a friendly at the Denny Bros Stadium.

Whilst chances flowed, the two teams were hard to separate, as Bury equalised at 2-2 just before the half hour mark, having led 1-0 from a thirteenth minute penalty from Angus Mills.

A quick turnaround then saw the visitors go in front, drawing back level on 21 minutes, before wasting little time to swiftly take the lead two minutes later from the penalty spot.

Fifteen year old trialist Josh Haddock meanwhile levelled proceedings for Bury after a dramatic goalmouth scramble.

The two sides were still inseparable at full-time, as Turner's tap in midway through the second half was cancelled out by a Histon penalty.

Bury arguably edged the opening ten minutes by the narrowest of margins, with the Blues going close right at the end of that spell. A cross into the box found Angus Mills free in a dangerous position inside the box, but the winger couldn't direct the ball goalwards from close range.

Histon though went close themselves a minute later, swerving a dangerously positioned free-kick across the face of goal and narrowly wide lf the far post.

Bury however were awarded a penalty on 13 minutes after Angus Mills was brought down from behind. The winger stepped up himself to bury the spot-kick with emphatic precision into the bottom left-hand corner, sending the keeper the wrong way in the process, to open the scoring.

It was almost 2-0 to Bury five minutes later, after some great play from the home side led to Clinton Frank being threaded through free inside the penalty area, as the forward's lay off to Angus Mills saw the latter shoot inches wide of the near post from close range.

Histon though drew level on 21 minutes, a defence splitting pass threaded a man through one-on-one with goalkeeper Liam Foreman, as the forward sidefooted a good finish under Foreman and into the bottom left-hand corner.

In quickfire fashion, the visitors then hit the front, smashing into the bottom right-hand corner from the penalty spot, sending Foreman the wrong way.

Bury, however, weren't behind for long as a dangerous cutback on the right byline saw Angus Mills denied twice from six yards out, before Ben Haddock eventually forced the ball over the line from within a packed goalmouth from point blank range, 2-2 after 27 minutes.

Some audacious play from the young Blues nearly saw them retake the lead two minutes later, Angus Mills showed some great skill to skin his man out on the right wing and then cross in low to George Allison running into the box - whose shot was helped over the bar by a Histon intervention for a corner.

The Blues then went agonisingly close to adding a third goal shortly after the half-hour mark, the hosts' audacious dipping volley was looking to nestle into the bottom left-hand corner until the Histon goalkeeper got across to take a great diving catch.

Soon after, the visitors tried to hit Bury on the counter attack, though the cutback to the edge of the six yard box was hit just over the crossbar.

Then with the final action of the opening forty-five minutes, some vital Bury defending kept the two sides level at the interval.

After threading a man through past the defence, the Histon man shot past the onrushing Foreman, although a defender was alert to retreat to the goal-line and vitally block the goal bound effort.

The chances then continued to flow in the second half, with Bury hitting the face of the crossbar with an audacious curling strike on 48 minutes, whilst, Histon brought a great save out off Liam Foreman eleven minutes later, the shot-stopper being required to beat a shot from outside the box behind his bottom right-hand corner.

Next, it was Bury's turn to go close once more two minutes later, Clinton Frank's drive forward proceeding a great defence splitting pass to Angus Mills whose shot was straight at the keeper's chest from an acute angle.

Bury 'keeper Foreman however was called into action at the other end shortly after, reacting superbly to make a great reflex save to parry away a bending shot towards the top corner.

The next tiwst then saw Bury retake the lead on 76 minutes, a great pass through to Angus Mills down the left wing saw the goalscorer beat his man to the ball on the byline before dangerously squaring across on a plate for Jack Turner, who from three yards out took advantage of a virtually vacant net to tap home instinctively.

That lead was in danger of being short lived, as Histon went inches away from making it 3-3, curling a well taken dangerously dipping 25-yard free-kick marginally over the crossbar.

Despite that, Histon tied the game up eight minutes from time, dispatching a powerful penalty into the top right-hand corner, sending Foreman the wrong way.

That concluded a thoroughly entertaining clash, as the two sides shared six goals equally in a game that could have easily had gone either way.
