Goals from Angus Mills and Tom Pinyoun not enough as Jockeys come from behind to take the points.

Bury Town Under-18s sign off for 2019 in defeat at Newmarket Town.

Bury arguably had the better chances in the first half, and could've added more than just the single goal, as the Blues had a chance just three minutes into the game, Jack Heider was fed through on the left wing to cross low in towards Tom Pinyoun close to goal in the centre, though his touch was heavy and easy for the keeper to gather. Newmarket meanwhile had their first chance of the evening in the eleventh minute, as the low shot on the left edge of the Bury box went wide of the near post. Bury then went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock three minutes later, Callum Steed picked up possession on the right-hand side in the box to cross perfectly to the head of Jack Turner who stood six-yards out at the near post but flicked his header an inch wide of the bottom far corner, whilst the home side had a shot comfortably blocked from the left edge of the box on 15 minutes.

Bury did take the lead however a minute later, as Angus Mills fired a low strike from 20-yards out on the left into the gaping bottom near corner, despite the keeper's dive across, 0-1 Bury. Bury though had another chance on 19 minutes but fired a great strike just over the crossbar. The Blues then tried their luck again in the twentieth minute, with the shot on the right going straight into the 'keeper's chest at his near post, before the Jockeys hit a low attempt on the left byline wide of the near post on 23 minutes. At the other end, Bury almost doubled their lead from a corner in on the left on 28 minutes, Callum Steed's ball in found the head of Aidan Browne close to goal unmarked at the back post, though the header went just wide of the bottom right corner. Three minutes later, the hosts had another opportunity to draw level, the free-kick on the right edge of the box fell to the home side on the central edge of the box to chest down and has a volley over the top right corner. Newmarket went close ten minutes before the break, dangerous play saw the hosts find a yellow shirt through on the left-hand side in the box to shoot narrowly wide of the bottom far corner. Bury though had another on 36 minutes, the ball fell to Kyran Cooper on the right-hand side in the box whose good low shot was blocked, followed a minute later by a Newmarket shot on the right also being blocked before the hosts curled an attempt well over the top far corner from the right-hand edge of the Bury penalty area. Ethan Mills then went close to doubling the visitor's lead in the thirty-eighth minute, the forward's shot going just wide of the top right corner from just inside the box, as Bury went into the interval with a 1-0 lead at a pouring Tristel Stadium.

Half Time: Newmarket Town 0-1 Bury Town

Bury began the second half in fairly similar fashion, as the away side went close to finding the target seconds after the restart, whilst great defending from Gee close to his own goal prevented the hosts from getting a shot at goal, as the defender's perfect slide tackle halted the Jockeys' attack down the left on 46 minutes. Two minutes later meanwhile Bury went close again, Kyran Cooper's great cross into the box on the right found a Blue head who put wide of the right post, though the keeper gathered anyway. The Blues doubled their lead however on 49 minutes, Tom Pinyoun's low strike nestling into the bottom left corner to make it 0-2 Bury, although the Jockeys responded soon after. The hosts' first saw a cross in on the left edge of the box headed over the bar on 50 minutes, before halving the deficit a minute later. Josh Martin through on the left wing from a tight angle hit a screamer towards goal, which dipped over Foreman and squeezed inside the post into the bottom right corner, 1-2. Bury shot over the bar in response 2 minutes later, whilst Liam Foreman denied the hosts once more, racing out off his goal to midway through his own half to clear a long ball downfield well out for a throw-in on 54 minutes. The home side though drew level in the fifty-sixth minute, after Bury gave possession straight to Callum Shaw outside the box who then found his way through onto the right-hand side in the box to finish cooly in off the inside of the far post and into the bottom left corner, 2-2. Newmarket then had two chances to score again on the 57th minute, the first from 25-yards was shot over the bar, with the second from the right outside the area going wide of the bottom far corner.

The Jockeys then had another go at goal in the sixty-first minute, this time from 20-yards on the left but again wide of the bottom far corner, before Foreman denied the home side well seconds later. A fierce strike from 20-yard out required the Bury stopper to parry over his bar well. The Bury keeper then had to be alert four minutes later, a Newmarket man intercepted a Bury clearance as the ball ricohaded through into Foreman's gloves down at his right post. Foreman was drawn into action once more on 69 minutes, the hosts got through down the left byline in the box to square across to a yellow shirt eight yards out, as the low shot at the bottom far corner was beaten away by an excellent diving save from the keeper. Newmarket then swung a corner into the box from the left on 74 minutes, finding a yellow shirt in the centre, whose header towards goal was blocked by a Blue head which went to a Newmarket head which went towards goal but was straight at Foreman who caught the ball well. The Jockeys then scored the winner 13 minutes from time, as the home side released Shaw racing through on goal as Foreman advanced off his line though the shot was cooly sent past him into the bottom middle corner, 3-2 Newmarket. The hosts then had another chance 10 minutes from the end, the right-back's strike on the left edge of the box was fired wide of the bottom near corner. Newmarket then had the final chance of the evening on 81 minutes, the low 25-yard strike on the right forced Foreman to dive down well to his near post and palm behind, whilst the corner in required the keeper to dive down to his opposite side and beat away a dangerous shot towards goal. The home side therefore took the points in a good game between two good teams.
