Maldon & Tiptree (A)

Bury Town go out of this seasons Velocity Trophy

In form Maldon & Tiptree breeze past the Blues to go through to the next stage of the Velocity Trophy. With so many first team players missing from the Bury line up a Maldon win was always on the cards. Bury did press Maldon throughout the first half but with Maldon fielding such a strong side the second half was very one sided. On 9 minutes Maldon had the chance to the lead with Jake Brice-Wiffen finding space in the box but shooting wide. Jake Chambers Shaw tested Maldon keeper Luke O’Reilly on 12 minutes with a well hit free kick which O’Reilly could only palm up into the air and gather on his second attempt. On 15 minutes Emmanuel Machaya got down the wing and put a cross into Colin Oppong in the box but a solid clearance from the defence put the ball out of danger. On 21 minutes Chambers Shaw got past two defenders and found Machaya in the box but another good defensive clearance sent the ball up field. Maldon took the lead on 32 minutes with a great cross into the box and a deft header from Jake Brice-Wiffen squeezed between Bury keeper George Bugg and the post. A mistake from O’Reilly gifted Bury the equalizer on 36 minutes after a bad clearance fell to Machaya in the box and the Bury youngster kept a cool head to lift his shot over the keeper and into the top corner. Maldon wasted no time in regaining the lead. On 38 minutes Jorome Slew went on a run past two defenders and on into the box to score past Bugg.

Half Time: Maldon & Tiptree 2 Bury Town 1

Second half saw more injury worries for Bury with Ryan Horne being stretchered off and Will Gardner having to go off. Bury were left chasing the game on 54 minutes when Hamza Kaid scored a third goal for Maldon. The game was over as a contest and with Maldon in lethal form in the final third it was just a case of how many goals the home side would take before the end. On 58 minutes Cruise Nyadzayo got to the edge of the box for Bury but shot high and wide. A half chance from Machaya on 63 minutes had O’Reilly saving low at the near post. On 67 minutes the Bury back line were overrun by Maldon and Slew bagged his second and Maldon’s fourth goal. On 83 minutes it was five with a low driven shot from Hamza Kaid beating everyone including Bugg and ended up in the bottom corner. The rout was over on 87 minutes when Charlee Hughes got on the score sheet. Not a good day at the office for Bury but with such an under-strength side the win was inevitable for such a strong Maldon side who go on to the next stage of the Trophy.
