Bury Town came up against a solid Canvey Island defence and had to work hard to create chances in front of goal. On 6 minutes a high ball into the box was headed goalward by Ollie Hughes but straight at Canvey keeper Emmanuel Idem. Ryan Jolland worked the ball in from out wide on 11 minutes for Bury but again Idem made the save. Another chance for Bury fell on 16 minutes when a cross into the box was headed over the bar by Alex Henderson. Canvey had a chance to open the scoring on 21 minutes with Rob Lacey heading over the bar from a good cross into the box. Daniel Barden made a exceptional save for Bury on 31 minutes when Sam Bantick was clean through on goal. A good build up from Bury in and around the box on 34 minutes ended with Ryan Stafford heading wide. On 37 minutes Jolland put a good corner in to the box which went just to high for Hughes to get his head on to the ball.

After an even first half which saw both defences on top Canvey took advantage of a loose ball in the Bury box and Ryan Melaugh stabbed the ball home on 53 minutes to give Canvey the lead. Bury struggled to get going until the last 15 minutes of the half when they looked at their most dangerous. On 80 minutes Colin Oppong got into the box for Bury but had his shot blocked. Jolland had a volley saved well by Idem on 82 minutes. On 88 minutes Rob Lacey hit a superb volley at the Bury goal but an equally superb save from Bury keeper Daniel Barden sent the ball out of play. Bury had a great chance to snatch a point on 90 minutes with a good cross into the box which fell for Ryan Stafford but a good save from Emmanuel Idem ensure the visitors took the win and all three points.
