Bury slip from top spot as Maldon take over as league leaders

A tough afternoon for the Blues as a heavy pitch and a resolute Histon saw the home side take a hard-fought victory. On 8 minutes Bury won a free kick in a dangerous area just outside the box and Ryan Jolland sent the ball in for Ollie Hughes but the ball went too close to Histon keeper Sam Roach who made the catch. On 18 minutes Dan Brown broke in to the Bury box and hit a low driven shot which Daniel Barden got down well to save. Histon took the lead on 19 minutes from a corner played into the box and the ball broke loose to Simon Swinton who could not miss from close range. Cemal Ramadan went close for Bury on 27 minutes, hitting a shot from distance with Roach got a hand to push the ball over the bar. A minutes later Ross Crane got in to the Histon box and chipped the ball in to the danger area but another solid stop from Roach denied Bury the equalizer. On 33 minutes Jake Chambers Shaw broke forward and put a cross into the box looking for Hughes but the ball went too close to the keeper who made an easy catch. Bury had a great chance early in the half with Ross Crane getting into the near post on 50 minutes and had his close-range effort cleared off the line by Ed Rolph. Another cross into the box two minutes later from Tommy Smith looking for Crane was intercepted well by Roach. On 56 minutes a poor clearance from Roach fell to Joe Hood and with Roach out of position Hood had an empty net to aim at but shot wide of the post. On 58 minutes Histon grabbed a second goal with a cross into the box which fell to Ed Rolph who fired Histon two goals in front. Ross Crane showed good skills to go past two defenders and on into the box on 62 minutes but overran the ball and the chance was gone. On 68 minutes Ollie Hughes got down the wing and put a cross into the box which beat the keeper but with no one following up the chance was wasted. Histon killed the game off on 75 minutes with their third goal. Bury were guilty off backing off far too much an Ed Rolph went through into the box to score. To many missed opportunities from Bury and Histon took their chances when they came to claim the points.
