Costly mistakes from Bury Town seals the win for Brightlingsea Regent

After a slow opening ten minutes Bury began to take control of the possession. Max Maughn went close for Bury on 17 minutes when he put his shot from distance inches wide of the far post. On 19 minutes Jose Santa De La Paz got into the box for Bury before two defenders blocked off his route and sent him to ground but the Ref was unimpressed and waved play on. On 24 minutes Jose Santa De La Paz again got to the edge of the box but a good interception from Zack Littlejohn got the ball back for Brightlingsea. Oliver Yun went down the wing for Bury on 25 minutes and got into the box to strike but his shot was blocked and Max Maughn made a follow up shot which was also blocked. A poor clearance from Brightlingsea on 26 minutes gifted the ball to Cemal Ramadan just outside the box but his shot was saved. Brightlingsea had the ball in the net on 33 minutes only to be ruled out due to a foul in the build-up. Another good attack from Bury on 40 minutes saw Cemal Ramadan lift the ball over to Ed Upson in the box and his short pass out to Ryan Horne set him up to shoot but his shot went wide of the far post, with half time fast approaching Manny Ogunrinde pounced on a misplaced pass from Bury and put the visitors in front. Then in first half injury time another poorly judged pass from Bury was punished by Brightlingsea as Kojo Apenteng made it 2-0 at the break.

Bury had a mountain to climb second half and they fought hard to get back into the game. On 51 minutes Oliver Yun went down the wing but his cross into the box went too long to be useful. Brightlingsea then went straight on the attack and Manny Ogunrinde got into the box but put his shot into the side netting. On 58 minutes Luke Brown tried his luck from distance for Bury but put his shot wide of the post. On 65 minutes Bury won a free kick which Ed Upson put into the box and a defensive header sent the ball goalward and the keeper needed to be on his toes to tip the ball over the bar. Max Maughn went on a driving run forward on 69 minutes and found Luke Brown with a good pass, but he shot wide of the far post. Max Maughn went down the wing again on 75 minutes this time finding Ed Upson, but he shot wide of the target. Bury won a free kick on 84 minutes which Ed Upson sent to the near post, but the keeper made the save. Bury finally made a chance count on 86 minutes when from a corner played in by Ed Upson he found Oliver Yun and Yun pulled a goal back for Bury with a good finish. It was a good effort from Bury to try and recover from the late mistakes of the first half, but it was Brightlingsea who took the win at the final whistle.
