A second half to forget for Bury Town as Heybridge swept them away with their attacking play and quality finishing

An even first half saw Heybridge get off to a quick start with Lewis Watson finding the back of the net on just 2 minutes only to see the goal ruled out for offside. On 13 minutes another good attack from Heybridge saw Rob Harvey’s shot headed off the goal line by Luke Brown. On 22 minutes it was Bury who went on the attack with Max Maughn slotting a great ball through to Jose Santa De La Paz but his soft shot from inside the box was easy for Heybridge keeper Thomas Wray to collect. On 26 minutes Kane Munday and Kieran Jones moved the ball quickly up field for Heybridge to set up Sam Park but he put the ball over the bar. Heybridge took the lead on 28 minutes when a good cross from Sam Park found Lewis Watson who shot back across the keeper and found the top corner with a good strike. Jose Santa De La Paz went on a forward run for Bury on 34 minutes and found Cemal Ramadan on his own and he went on to grab the equaliser with a confident finish. On 37 minutes another driving run from Jose Santa De La Paz saw him get down the wing but his cross into the box looking for Cemal Ramadan was cleared by the defence. On 44 minutes Ryan Jolland got to the edge of the box but scuffed his shot and the ball went softly through to the keeper. In injury time Ross Wall went close for Heybridge went he shot just wide of the far post.

After the break Heybridge set out their intent early when on 46 minutes Ross Wall had a shot saved by the feet of Will Gardner. On 49 minutes Sam Park restored the lead for Heybridge when he saw the opportunity to lift the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. On 50 minutes Kieran Jones got forward but his low strike was saved by Danny Cullum. Another Heybridge attack on 57 minutes saw Rob Harvey put a good cross into the box but Kieran Jones missed his attempted header from close range. Heybridge were attacking at will and on 59 minutes a deft header from Ross Wall made it three for the hosts. Bury broke forward on 65 minutes with Jose Santa De La Paz getting into the box but the defence won the ball back and went straight back on the attack. On 69 minutes a corner for Heybridge was headed just wide of the far post by Quba Gordon. Rob Harvey made it four for Heybridge on 71 minutes with a first-time strike into the bottom corner. Heybridge won a penalty on 75 minutes which was initially saved by Danny Cullum but Kieran Jones scored with a follow up shot. Ross Wall completed the scoring on 85 minutes when he was in the right place at the right time to score a tap in from close range. A great afternoon out for Heybridge and their fans which saw them elevated into the play off places but for Bury it was a heavy defeat that saw them drop from 8th to 12th in the league.
