Early first and second half goals gave Bury a two-goal lead but that was where the game changed as Bury sat back and Grays made most of the attacking play for the remainder.

Grays Athletic had an early chance when on 11 minutes a ball into the box found Sam Bantick, but his first-time effort curled the wrong side of the far post.
Bury took an early lead when a Grays throw in went awry and Cemal Ramadan picked up the ball and when on into the box to fire Bury in front on 16 minutes with a good finish.
Ethan Mayhew had a chance for Bury on 20 minutes when he battled hard in the box to get his shot away, but Danny Sambridge made a great save with his legs. Grays went on the attack a minute later with Sam Bantick getting into the box before he was swamped by three Bury defenders who gave him nowhere to go as they got the ball clear.
Luke Brown got to the edge of the box for Bury on 28 minutes before a vital tackle from Suleiman Bakalandwa won the ball back for Grays.
On 36 minutes good build up play from Bury gave Luke Brown a chance to shoot from outside the box but his shot was blasted wide.
With five minutes left of the half Luke Brown and Ethan Mayhew played a great one two for Bury before Mayhew’s shot stung the hands of the 'keeper. On 43 minutes a counterattack from Grays was saved well by Bury 'keeper Danny Cullum and the ball found its way out to David Knight but he sent his shot high over the bar.
A good half from Bury saw them take a one goal lead in with them at half time.

Bury did not hang about at the start of the second half as they went two goals up on 46 minutes with Ryan Horne finding the back of the net. After the second goal Bury started to sit back and let Grays have the ball and the home side openly obliged as they took control of the game. On 49 minutes a long ball into the box almost fell to Suleiman Bakalandwa but the Bury back line got the ball clear.
On 54 minutes another Grays attack saw Sam Bantick shoot but Danny Cullum made a great one-handed save. Aron Gordon played a good cross into the box for Grays on 56 minutes with found Sam Bantick who put his shot off the outside of the near post.
On 60 minutes Grays made one of their attacks count when Charlie Stimson showed excellent skills to control the ball and compose himself to hit a great strike from outside the box which flew past Danny Cullum as it hit the back of the net.
On 67 minutes Aron Gordon again went down the wing before putting a cross into the box for Suleiman Bakalandwa but his shot went straight into the arms of Danny Cullum.
Grays were attacking at will and on 80 minutes Charlie Stimson was on hand again to punish Bury when he headed home the equaliser from a corner.
Bury did have a late charge at goal on 86 minutes which saw Lewis Clark clear the ball of his goal line but the game finished all square at the final whistle and a game that the visitors will see as two points dropped from a winning position.
