Bury Town progressed to the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy with an away win at Isthmian Premier Division side Wingate & Finchley.
Bury saw a lot of the ball during the first half as they went toe to toe with the home side from the start. On 12 minutes Max Maughn broke forward for Bury and went on into the box but his ball back to the centre was cleared.
On 15 minutes Bury won a corner which Ed Upson put into the box for Ryan Jolland and his short pass was just out of reach of Jose Santa De La Paz in front of goal. Bury had another attack on 20 minutes which saw a long ball into the box heading for Luke Brown but Rhamar Garrett – Douglas got a head to the ball to clear the danger for Wingate.
On 24 minutes Luke Brown played a nice, chipped ball forward looking for Jose Santa but an important interception from Ben Frempah got the ball clear.
A quick break up field from Wingate after 26 minutes saw Zack Newton get down the wing and put a cross into the box for Anointed Chukwu but his effort lacked power and Bury 'keeper Danny Cullum was quick to collect the ball.
Elliot Long went on a run for Wingate after 33 minutes before hitting a low shot with power which Danny Cullum did well to smother. A minute later Bury hit the bar after Jose Santa held the ball up waiting for support and Luke Brown obliged as he got forward, collected the pass and shaped his shot over the 'keeper and off the woodwork.
Bury won a free kick just before the break in a promising position which Ryan Jolland sent on to the head of Ed Upson but the header went an inch over the bar.

Bury opened the scoring early in the second half when on 51 minutes Max Maughn threaded a great ball through the defence for Jose Santa De La Paz to use his lightning pace and he did just that as he powered past the defender and was into the box and in on goal to shoot across the 'keeper and find the back of the net.
A double substitution from Wingate on 57 minutes saw Wingate start to see more of the ball. On 61 minutes Zack Newton got deep into the Bury half and got a cross into the box which Bury did well to get clear.
On 63 minutes another good attack from Wingate saw Elliot Long’s shot deflected to safety. Two minutes later Ben Siggers put a great cross to the far post for Ben Frempah to head at goal from close range but Danny Cullum was there to make the catch for Bury.
A Wingate free kick on 70 minutes was sent just over the bar by Elliot Long. On 77 minutes a swift attack from Wingate was met by a brave block from Will Gardner who got the ball clear.
Wingate increased the pressure on Bury towards the end of the game but Bury 'keeper Danny Cullum was at his very best to keep them out. On 80 minutes a very brave save at the feet of Zack Newton denied Wingate a chance.
On 89 minutes Jardel Adeyinka got through the Bury defence to strike but a superb one handed save from Danny Cullum sent the ball out of play. The Bury keeper s afternoon was still not over there as he was called upon again in injury time when a powerful strike from Elliot Long saw Danny Cullum make another incredible stop. Bury Town weathered the late storm from Wingate and came through to the final whistle to book their place in the next round.
