Bury Town continue to entertain in the FA Trophy as Ethan Mayhew scored a late cracker to send the game into a penalty shootout

Walthamstow hit the ground running as they took an early lead when a corner was headed on by Jordon Watson to Carl Mensah who headed home with just five minutes on the clock. Bury Town then got into their stride and started to take control of the game.
On 9 minutes a good Bury attack saw Cemal Ramadan pick up the ball in the box and with his back to goal he turned and struck but a superb one handed save from Matthew Nolan sent the ball around the post.
On 15 minutes Bury had another chance when Josh Curry’s forward pass found Cemal Ramadan who went past his marker but shot wide of the far post.
Max Maughn went on a driving run down the wing for Bury on 24 minutes and came inside the box to get a shot away, but Matthew Nolan made another good stop for the visitors.
On 33 minutes Walthamstow went close when they won a free kick which George Ironton sent heading into the top corner, but Danny Cullum made an excellent one handed save at full stretch.
The best chance of the half for Bury came on 38 minutes when Joe White got down the wing and put a great cross into the far post for Oliver Yun, but he could not guide the ball in from the tight angle and he hit the side netting with his effort from close range.
In injury time Bury had a chance with Cemal Ramadan breaking forward and going past the defender but his shot from the edge of the box went over the bar.

Half Time: Bury Town 0 Walthamstow 1

Bury continued their frequent attack throughout the second half as they went in search of a goal. On 56 minutes a long ball from Bury found Cemal Ramadan wide in the box and he whipped a cross in for Jose Santa De La Paz in front of goal but the Bury striker could not make use of the inviting chance.
On 63 minutes Luke Brown did well for Bury as he powered into the box but his shot was blocked and a couple of minutes later Walthamstow went on the attack with Damaray Anyadike crossing the ball into the box for Callum Ibe but Cullum made a solid challenge to win the ball back.
Damaray Anyadike won the ball high up the pitch for Walthamstow on 69 minutes and went charging towards goal but a superb tackle from Lewis O’Malley in the box won the ball back for Bury.
On 72 minutes Lewis O’Malley was needed again as Jared Small broke into the box and another brilliant challenge by the Bury defender got the ball clear.
Bury looked dangerous with every attack but it took a moment of pure class from Ethan Mayhew on 84 minutes when he hit a simply superb strike from distance that was a goal from the moment the ball left his boot as it went over the defence, over the 'keeper and dipped under the bar to level for Bury.
The game ended all square and a penalty shootout followed. Ollie Fenn, Ryan Jolland and Oliver Yun were all on target for Bury and a miss from Walthamstow and two superb saves from man of the match Danny Cullum sent Bury Town through to the Third Qualifying round of the Izuzu FA Trophy.
