Bury slip to their first home defeat of the season

Bury Town manager Ben Chenery did not feel that a 1-4 scoreline reflected the true story of Tuesday's defeat to Maldon & Tiptree at the Denny Bros Stadium.

The game was level at 1-1 with 16 minutes of the game remaining, and the Blues were on the front foot but a late flurry of goals from the visitors gave them the points.

Ben said "I don't think that 4-1 truly reflects the part we have played in the game. We played some good stuff at times in the first half as we have done recently, but we started the second slowly and allowed Maldon to get a foot hold in the game and take the lead"

"We came back strongly and Ollie Hughes hit the cross bar, and then drew us level with a great strike. We then had another opportunity but conceded a poor second goal, and the two further goals really flattered Maldon"

"It is very disappointing to lose, but Maldon are a good side and we must take some positives from our play. We have another opportunity at home on Saturday to put things right against Aveley and hopefully by that time we will have added a new face to the squad as I am continually working to add to what we have"
