Bury Town Under 23’s, sponsored by F.A Valiant & Son Ltd, kicked off life in the Thurlow Nunn Under 23’s league with a 3-1 win at Walsham-Le-Willows.
Following the folding of the Isthmian Under 23’s section due to a lack of clubs, we have switched over to the newly formed Thurlow Nunn League this season, which was a Reserve Team division last season. The team is also under new management this season with Jamie Garwood taking over as manager and he will be assisted by Daren Heywood. Unlike last season there as some matches scheduled for Saturday’s, however we are trying to change some of the Saturday dates to midweek to help with player availability.
The season started on Thursday evening away at Walsham and the home side lead at the break after a strike midway through the first half, however, Bury turned the game around in the second half and drew level through Ben Curtis and it was Curtis again who grabbed what looked to be the winning goal around 10 minutes from time when he fired into the roof of the net from close range, but there was still time for Ethan Flack to score with a fine strike from distance in the final minute to complete a good win in the opening game of the season against last years champions.
The Under 23's are back in action over the weekend when they travel to Lakenheath, kick off 3pm. They have their first home match of the season on Saturday 26th August so if you are not heading to Felixstowe to watch the First Team, the Under 23’s would appreciate your support at home to Framlingham Town at Ram Meadow, kick off 3pm.
