Brentwood beaten as Blues record their first win - By Drew Kendall

Bury Town Under-23s maintained their unbeaten start to the new season, gaining their first win after 3 second half goals, within 13 minutes against Brentwood Town.

The home side were in control of proceedings early on, as a Bury player headed a corner, on the left, wide at the far post followed by the first shot on target 2 minutes later.
Ryan Gibbs' low effort, from outside the area, went straight to the visiting goalkeeper.

However, it was Brentwood that took an early lead on 7 minutes, as a free-kick for the visitors, on the right, was swung over to the back post where the header (to everybody's surprise) looped over the bewildered back and into the bottom right corner. Bury responded though, by creating an onslaught of chances on the Brentwood goal. First, Ince's first time effort went wildy over the bar, on 16 minutes, before the home side went close again- just three minutes later. Machaya, on the left byline, fed a teammate in the area whose shot was kept out. The rebound was fired across the box, from the far side but the shot was cleared off the line.

At this point, it was clear Bury were dominating possession, with Brentwood restricted to counter attacks, and won a penalty ten minutes before the interval. Machaya was brought down on the left byline, only for Jolland to step up and blast the spotkick wildly over the top left corner. White then went for goal, two minutes later, but his drive at goal, from outside the box, came back out off the post, as the ball fell to Robinson on the left byline who turned past the defender and crossed into the box.

However, his ball in was volleyed wide at the far post, meaning Bury's search for an equaliser carried on a bit longer. The away side then had a half-chance off their own on 40 minutes, but volleyed horrensously over the bar, six yards out, after a cross from the left. Three minutes later, a Bury cross in from the right picked out Machaya at the far post, but could only head wide off the target.

Gibbs then went close again for Bury, as his shot from the right byline forced the keeper to scramble the ball behind his near post, with 45 minutes played. Bury did though grab an equaliser, a minute into stoppage time, Gibbs' shot from the right going through the keeper and into the net.

A minute after, it could've been 2 within a minute for Bury, as they brought out a great save for the keeper just before the break. Straight from the restart, a Bury shot from outside the penalty area was heading for the bottom left corner, only for the keeper to get down to it and palm it away from goal, to keep his team level at the break.

Bury started the second half similarly to how they ended the first, with Robinson and Revell linking up well twenty-five yards from goal, on 47 minutes. The latter then went for goal, as his well hit effort was well tipped over by the keeper to keep the score level at 1-1. Three minutes later, Jolland then had a free-kick 22-yards or so out, but his kick was blocked by the way. Back came the visitors, as an effort at goal, from the right side off the box, somehow ended up wide off the far post, with 51 minutes played.

Brentwood then won a corner, on the left two minutes later, but put the setpiece wide at the far post for a goalkick to Bury. End to end action soon followed, as a Brentwood shot was blazed well over the bar, from the right-side off the box, 7 minutes before the hour mark. The away side then won a freekick twenty five yards from goal, but No.4 fired wide off the bottom left corner on 63 minutes.

A minute later, White found his way to the edge of the box only for his shot to be smothered, as his side took the lead soon after. Machaya's top class freekick, from just outside the area, beat the wall before dipping into the bottom right corner. Cue a goal frenzy, as Bury went 3-1 up on 69 minutes. Joshua Revell's superb cross from the right, took a deflection off the head off a defender before picking out out Gibbs, who headed it home at the back post.

It took Bury just ten minutes to make the game safe, as Ince's fantastic strike flew into the top right corner, from twenty yards out, as Bury went 4-1 up. It could've been more though on 87 minutes, as Jolland curled a shot wide off the far post, from the right-edge off the box, with Bury awarded a penalty for another foul in the area. Again, Jolland stepped up but this this time was denied by the keeper, diving down to his right. Still, Bury had late chances to grab a fifth, as Revell fed Brown on the right whose low cross found Gibbs, at the back post, who shot wide of the target with a minute of normal time to go. The hosts then had the last chance of the match in added time, as an effort from the left narrowly went only the crossbar.
