Basildon United (A)

Bury Town moved up one place in the Isthmian North division table with a convincing win over Basildon United at Gardiners Close on a warm Saturday afternoon, gaining revenge for a 2-0 home defeat earlier in the season.
An early chance for Basildon United came after 4 minutes when a quick attack saw Marlon Stratford put a ball in to the box that went to Kudus Oyenuga but his miss kick was easily dealt with by the Bury defence.
Bury Town took the lead when Cemal Ramadan opened the scoring on 16 minutes from the spot after Ross Crane was tripped over in the six-yard box.
On 20 minutes Basildon won a free kick and Kris Newby put a good ball in to a crowded box but the Bury defences had it covered and got the ball clear. Bury went two goals up after 20 minutes when Ross Crane picked up the ball deep in his own half then ran the ball all the way up field, past two defenders and on into the box to set up Jake Chambers Shaw, who beat the offside trap and the 'keeper with a good finish to double the Blues lead.
Basildon keeper Emmanuel Olajide needed to be on his game on 32 minutes after Ryan Jolland perfect pass in the box found Ross Crane in the six-yard box, but a great block save from the legs of Olajide denied Bury a third goal.
On 40 minutes Ryan Jolland showed quick thinking when he picked up the ball just past the half way line, saw the 'keeper off his line and on the turn hit a looping effort high over the keeper’s head which dropped just inches over the bar.

Half Time: Basildon United 0 Bury Town 2

The start of the second half a double substitution from Basildon United and that saw them start the half off having more of the ball than they had during the first half but the Bury defence kept everything out, plus the Blues were still dangerous on the attack.
On 53 minutes Basildon were on the attack with Temitola Olukolu finding Samuel Carter in the box and close to goal but a superb save from Sam Blair kept Bury Town’s clean sheet intact.
On 64 minutes Kris Newby tried to send Kudus Oyenuga on his way but the Bury defence were on it in a flash and the chance was gone. Bury won a corner on 68 minutes which Jake Chambers Shaw put on the head of Joe White but the header when over the bar.
On 69 minutes Ross Crane put a ball in to the box for Jake Chambers Shaw but a well-timed challenge from Lyndon McDonald won the ball back for Basildon.
Bury hit the woodwork on 78 minutes when Ross Crane worked the ball across the box and his shot was defected on to the bar but the pressure paid off after 80 minutes as the Blues broke through again and a decent ball crossed in to the box was headed home by Ross Crane with a confident header which flew past the keeper. Unfortunately the game was over shadowed when Ross Crane had to leave for hositpal after suffering a nasty cut to his head in a collision with the pitch perimeter fencing but Bury Town took the win at the final whistle with a hard fought out performance and move up one place in the league to 11th.
