Bury Town had the majority of the chances in this game, but it was Basildon who took their opportunities when they came along. On 7 minutes Robbie Farrell got into the Bury box but a good challenge from Joe Hood broke down the Basildon attack. Cemal Ramadan got on to the end of a long ball for Bury on 15 minutes and went on in to the box but fired his shot over the bar. On 23 minutes Bury had an opportunity to open the scoring with Ross Crane whipping a pacey cross in to the box but Ryan Jolland volleyed the ball wide from close range. On 35 minutes a Bury corner was put into the box by Crane but Taylor Hastings could only head his effort wide of the post. Ryan Horne played a good pass to Ramadan inside the Basildon box on 37 minutes, but Ramadan put his shot straight in to the hands of Basildon keeper Emmanuel Olajide. In the next attack some good build up play from Bury saw Jake Chambers Shaw get in to the box but again his shot was collected by Olajide. Jolland worked the ball in to a good position just outside the box on 42 minutes but put his shot high over the bar. Basildon snatched the lead on 45 minutes when Declan Nche battled hard to win the ball just outside the Bury box and his cross in was only cleared as far as Steven Sardina who hit a low powerful strike through a crowded box and in to the back of the net.

Bury went straight on the attack second half with a long ball down the wing which was collected by Cemal Ramadan who went on in to the box to put his curling inside the far post but for the hand of Emmanuel Olajide who made a good save. Bury had another good chance on 52 when Will Gardener’s thumping shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced on the goal line before it was cleared out of play. On 56 minutes Ryan Jolland drove forward and got to the edge of the box before he put his strike over the bar. On 63 minutes a free kick played in from Jake Chambers Shaw found Ross Crane, but he shot wide. Another good chance for Bury came on 68 minutes after a sustained spell of attacking from Bury saw Olajide get stranded out of his goal area when the ball broke to Jolland but his attempt on goal went wide. Basildon had to defend well to keep Bury out, which they did and in numbers. A good attack from Basildon on 78 minutes saw Ruben Carvalho break down the wing and his cross in found Gabriel Piorkowski on the edge of the box but his first-time strike sailed over the bar. On 90 minutes Basildon killed the game off with a quick counter attack which broke kindly for Marlon Stratford who could not miss from close range. The chance were there for Bury but it was Basildon who made their chances count to take the win.
