Strong performance from Bury Town but Tilbury held on to take the win

Bury Town were in control for long periods of this game but Tilbury’s defence put in a shift to hold out and take the points. Bury had an early chance with Joe Hood heading against the bar on 5 minutes. Oliver Spooner went close for Tilbury on 10 minutes put pulled his shot wide of the far post. Marlon Agyakwa put Tilbury in front on 18 minutes after the Bury back line were guilt of backing off far too much to allow Agyakwa in to score. Things got worse for the Blues on 27 minutes after Brian Moses got down the wing and into the box unchallenged and set up Agyakwa for his second goal. On 35 minutes Ryan Horne was in the right place for Bury as he cleared the ball off the goal line. Ryan Jolland hit a low strike past the keeper for Bury on 43 minutes to halve the deficit for the Blues. Cemal Ramadan powered into the box on 45 minutes but could only find the side netting with his shot from close range.

In the second half Bury went all-out attack to try and draw level, on 48 minutes a Bury free kick from Ramadan went just over the bar. Ross Crane hit a solid strike for Bury on 51 minutes which was cleared off the line by Ryan Boswell. Ollie Hughes showed good skill as he got past two defenders to whip in a cross but more determined defending ended the move. Bury keeper Daniel Barden made a superb save on 57 minutes from a Brian Moses strike. Ryan Jolland was on the end of a quick attack from Bury on 59 minutes but shot just wide of the post. Bury were dominant but the Tilbury back line were well organised and in no mood to give the Blues anything. On 68 minutes Jake Chambers Shaw got to the edge of the box but shot wide. Chambers Shaw was in again on 71 minutes but again short wide. Tilbury should have gone further ahead on 77 minutes, but Marlon Agyakwa hit the bar. Bury had a good shout for a penalty on 85 minutes when Hughes was brought down in the box, but the referee waved play on. The Tilbury goal lead a charmed life, but the visitors hung on to take the points at the final whistle.
