Bury Town move up to second with win at Canvey Island
Bury Town moved up to second in the early season table thanks to a stunning strike from Will Gardner and a late goal from substitute Cruise Nyadzayo. Bury rode their luck at times in the second half but some solid defending kept Canvey out in what was the Blues first clean sheet of the season. First half chances for Canvey fell to Jason Hallett on 7 minutes who shot straight at the Bury 'keeper Daniel Barden. Josh Hutchinson hit the post for Canvey on 9 minutes. On 17 minutes Ross Crane put a cross into the box for Bury but the ball went just over the head of Ollie Hughes in the box. On 33 minutes another cross in from Will Gardner was too high for Hughes in the box. Bury defended well and got their reward at the other end on 38 minutes when a top-class strike from Will Gardner left everyone stunned as the ball screamed into the top corner from some way out to give Bury the lead going into the break.

The game swung end to end second half but Canvey continued to make good chances only to falter in front of goal. On 46 minutes Jason Hallett volleyed the ball wide from inside the box. On 55 minutes Tobi Joseph went agonizingly close when he headed a corner against the bar. Tobi Joseph got in to the Bury box on 62 minutes but put this shot wide. On 80 minutes a corner for Canvey was headed just wide by Tobi Joseph. Barden pulled of some great saves worthy of the man of the match award during the second half, the best of which came on 83 minutes, a looping strike had the Bury keeper back peddling, but he palmed the ball out over the bar.
Bury sealed the win in the dying minutes with Cruise Nyadzayo taking advantage of some poor goal keeping and getting past the keeper and the last defender to slot the ball past the Canvey keeper on 87 minutes. Bury took the win at the final whistle and go above Canvey into second place in the league.
