Goals from Cemal Ramadan, Ryan Jolland and Ollie Hughes were enough to see Bury Town take the win in the season opener against Basildon United at the Denny Bros Stadium.
Bury started the game with ferocious pace up front and after just 9 minutes were two goals to the good. Blues first goal was a quick attack on the wing and a low cross into the box for Cemal Ramadan to side foot home after just 2 minutes.
On 6 minutes another quick attack from Bury saw Ross Crane hit the post and the rebound fell to Ramadan who shot from wide of the goal was saved by Louis Hawes. Another Bury chance fell to Taylor Hastings on 8 minutes when his header from a cross was pushed up and on to the bar by Hawes.
Blues second goal came on 9 minutes with Ryan Jolland hitting a superb strike from outside the box which curled around the outstretched 'keeper and inside the post. It was up hill for Basildon from that point on, but the visitors dug deep to get back in the game but the sending off of Captain Adam Vyse with a straight red on 33 minutes for an off the ball incident was a big blow for the Bees. Ayomikun Odukoya pulled a goal back for Basildon on 36 minutes after confusion from the Bury back line saw the ball end up in the back of the net. Basildon had a lifeline to take in to the second half.
Half Time: Bury Town 2 Basildon United 1
The second half saw Bury waste no time in getting back on the attack and had the ball in the back of the net again on 49 minutes after a howler from keeper Luis Hawes as the ball went under him and crawled over the goal line, however the assistant referee's flag saved Hawes blushes as he ruled offside before the initial shot had gone in.
On 51 minutes a Bury corner was headed over the bar from close range. Hughes was not to be out done though and on 62 minutes he netted a simply stunning goal as he fired an overhead volley past the 'keeper and high into the roof of the net.
On 67 minutes Bury were in the box again with Ross Crane spinning past the first defender and then the second to drive into the box but his shot ended up going high and wide.
Ryan Jolland saw a straight red for Bury on 79 minutes to even the sides up, but it made little difference to the score line in the end as Bury took the win to start their season off in a positive manner with their first three points on the board in the Isthmian North Division.
