Heybridge Swifts (A)

Frustrating afternoon for ten man Bury Town

Bury Town fell to another defeat to a determined Heybridge Swifts side. Bury came in to the game on the back of an impressive performance last time out but could not build on that with something from this game. Bury started well, on 4 minutes Ollie Hughes intercepted a pass out on the wing and driving inside crossed the ball in to the box looking for Jake Chambers Shaw but the ball spun loose and was cleared form danger. Daniel Walker headed just over the bar for Heybridge on 8 minutes from a good free kick. Bury should have taken the lead when Tanner Call burst through but he shot just wide when one-on-one with the 'keeper. Another good opportunity for Bury came on 16 minutes when Chambers Shaw hit a solid strike from some way out which had Heybridge keeper Chris Haigh palming past the post. Bury lost their momentum on 19 minutes with the sending off of captain Ollie Fenn for a questionable straight red card for what the match official deemed a dangerous tackle. Heybridge wasted no time in grabbing the lead on 23 minutes, with Bury out of shape a loose ball in the Bury box was collected by Harrison Chatting who made a good strike past Luis Tibble to give the home side the advantage. On 38 minutes Heybridge went close to doubling their lead with Walker climbing highest in the box to get his head on to a cross but headed wide. Walker again went close on 43 minutes with a superb turn and strike heading in to the top corner but for an excellent save from Tibbles.

Half Time: Heybridge Swifts 1 Bury Town 0

Second half ten man Bury looked much more together as a team and had more possession than they had seen in the first half. On 48 minutes Ryan Stafford pushed forward up the wing but put his cross in to the box too close to Haigh who made an easy save. Tanner Call showed some real determination on 53 minutes winning the ball and pressing towards goal, but his cross was again too close to Haigh. On 62 minutes Ryan Jolland picked up the ball on the edge of the box and had only one thing on his mind, a swivel to line himself up and a good strike which went a inch over the bar. A warning sign for the Blues came on 66 minutes after a good spell of build-up play Luke Callander hit a strike against the bar from inside the box. Bury kept going sensing the equaliser would come. Emmanuel Machaya came of the bench and looked very lively getting in to the box on 87 minutes and winning a corner for the Blues. Bury Town's never say die attitude continued until the end and almost paid off on 90 minutes with Hughes hitting a shot which was spilled by Haigh and the mad rush to get the ball saw the defence clear the ball just in the nick of time. The sucker punch for Bury came very late in injury time with a stunning strike from distance from Nicholas Brown who saw hit shot fly past Tibbles and in to the back of the net. A goal worth of killing any game off. Heybridge took the win and not for the first time this season Bury had to play the majority of a game with just ten men.
