Bury Town make it back to back wins with victory over Brentwood Town

A brace of goals from Ollie Hughes gave Bury Town another win in the Bostik North with a 2-1 win over visiting Brentwood Town at the Denny Bros Stadium. Both sides cancelled each other out for most of the first half and real chances were few and far between. On 3 minutes Jake Chambers Shaw put a good cross in to the box for Bury and Ollie Hughes went close with a header just over the bar. Brentwood had a good chance on 7 minutes with a long ball in to the box that was an inch too high for Connor Martin to connect with a header. Emmanuel Machaya broke forward for Bury on 10 minutes and got to the edge of the box before finding Chambers Shaw in space, but he put his shot wide. Nathan Fox was on hand to clear the ball off the goal line on 22 minutes for Brentwood after Machaya but a low pass close to goal. From the resulting corner Ryan Horne put the ball deep to the far post and Joe White headed into the side netting. A well hit free kick from Kojo Apenteng tested Bury keeper Luis Tibbles on 34 minutes and a superb save saw the ball put out of play. Another outstanding save from Tibbles just before half time saw him make a brave block save from Charlee Hughes who saw sliding in on goal at the far post trying to get on the end of a low driven pass.

After a slow first half the game sprang to life for the second half with Bury looking more of an attacking force. A well built up attack from Bury on 51 minutes found Ollie Fenn in the box and his close-range header was saved by Budd with a quick reactions save. On 53 minutes Hughes grabbed his first goal after a great corner in from Ryan Horne dipped down nicely for Hughes to hit a bullet header which flew past 'keeper Rob Budd. Some bad luck on 55 minutes gave Brentwood the equaliser after a huge deflection took the ball high over keeper Luis Tibbles and it went in of the far post. Bury were soon back in front on 60 minutes when Jake Chambers Shaw went down in the box and the referee played on with no penalty awarded as the ball broke to Hughes who smashed home his and Bury Town's second goal. A ball over the top for Bury on 65 minutes has Machaya running in to the box and in on the keeper and a well hit strike was punched away by Budd. Tanner Call went close for Bury on 69 minutes after Ryley Scott put a through ball in to the near post but the ball went out of play. The save of the game came on 81 minutes, another swift attack from Bury saw Tanner Call in on goal and one on one with the 'keeper but an outstanding one handed save lifted Call’s strike up and an inch over the bar to keep Brentwood in the game. Bury kept attacking until the final whistle and took the win to make it back to back wins and another three points in the Bostik North Division.
