Basildon United (A)

Both sides found it tough going in the driving wind and rain at Gardiners Close as Basildon United and Bury Town fought out a 0-0 draw in the Bostik North Division. It was not a pretty game but that was to be expected as the pitch progressively got more slippery. The first action saw Ryan Jolland get forward for Bury on 3 minutes and put a decent cross for Ollie Hughes, but the defence cleared the ball out of play. On 7 minutes Ryan Horne found Jolland in a good position on the edge of the box but Jolland hit his shot over the bar. Basildon went desperately close on 12 minutes with Thomas Barton putting a great cross in to the box and Eljay Worrell headed off the bar. Bury hit the back of the net on 20 minutes after a quick break from Bury but the flag went up for a very tight offside decision. Oliver Spooner then got through the Bury back line on 26 minutes but could not get enough control of the ball to make an effective effort on goal. On 27 minutes Ollie Hughes showed great determination, breaking in to the Basildon box but the defence read the play well and intercepted the ball from the feet of Hughes. A free kick for Bury in a dangerous position on 34 minutes saw Jake Chambers Shaw whip the ball on to the head of Ian Miller but the ball went over. Brain Moses got in to the Bury box on 40 minutes and tried to place his close-range effort past Luis Tibbles bit the Bury 'keeper made the save.

Half Time: Basildon United 0 Bury Town 0

The second half saw Bury keep the pressure on with a high tempo, but it was Basildon who went close early in the half. Brian Moses hit a shot from close range which hit the base of the near post. With the rain still driving down the game was never going to be full of chances but the two sides kept pressing forward as often as possible. On 54 minutes Ollie Hughes went on a run in to the box but over ran the ball with his last touch. A corner for Bury on 60 minutes found the head of Ollie Fenn but the header went wide of the far post. On 77 minutes Oluider Sebitimo Quadri got wide and in to the box and but a good chip in looking for Sebastao Reside but a great headed clearance from Ian Miller kept the score level. On 80 minutes Basildon put a good cross in from the wing looking for Thomas Barton but his off-balance header went wide of the near post. On 85 minutes Bury won a free kick central and just outside the box which Chamber Shaw hit goalward and the clearance fell to Ryan Horne who hit a fantastic strike which was saved by superbly by Connor Whealley. Bury finished strongly and on 88 minutes Kyran Clements was unlucky not to score hitting a flick past the defence but hit the base of the post. A last gasp corner in from Bury was cleared off the line by Joseph Burgess on 93 minutes. A point a piece was a fair result overall with the poor weather playing its part.
