Bostik League Great Wakering Rovers (H)

Bury were desperate for a win and had to dig deep in this game to get all three points and in the end, it took a huge bit of luck to take the win at the final whistle. Bury hit the ground running and were in front after just a minute. A free kick in to the box was headed goalward by Ollie Fenn and the ball fell to the feet of Ollie Hughes who tapped the ball in on the second attempt from close range. On 6 minutes Wakering won a free kick on the edge of the box and Lewis Payne went close putting his shot just over the bar. Jake Chambers Shaw went close to putting Bury further in front on 16 minutes, hitting a solid strike which had Wakering keeper Coey Turipa palming the ball on to the post and out of play. On 35 minutes Bury had another chance to go further ahead when Ryan Jolland whipped in a corner for Ollie Fenn to head towards goal but a fantastic save from Turipa put the ball on to the bar and out for another corner. Just before the break Wakering were level after being awarded a penalty for obstruction. Stephen Butterworth stepped up and fired home from the spot for Wakering.

After the break Bury regained the lead on 52 minutes with Tanner Call hitting a solid shot that defected of off the defender and the post to end up in the back of the net. On 69 minutes Jake Gordon went on a run for Wakering and got in to the box but lacked support and Bury managed to clear the ball upfield. Adam Vyse had a shot for the visitors a minute later which had Bury keeper Luis Tibbles saving low with one hand. A fantastic free kick from Wakering saw Billy Johnson find the top corner of the net to pull the scores level again on 79 minutes. Both sides were finishing strong looking for the winner. On 82 minutes Tanner Call put a great ball in for Jake Chambers Shaw to have a go but his shot went high over the bar. With the points looking like they would be shared as full time approached Bury had a massive slice of fortune on 88 minutes. A great cross in found Tanner Call off balance but managing to head towards goal and a luckless Jason Ring sliding the ball into his own net at the far post. Bury will take the win and a much needed three point but this game really could have gone either way.
