Bostik League Felixstowe & Walton United (A)

Bury Town start this campaign with a defeat but should take a very positive outlook when reflecting on this game. Poor decisions from the officials for both sides torn the heart out of this game and turned what should have been an exciting game between two good sides in to an ill-tempered affair. A steady start from both teams was soon brought to life on 5 minutes by a superb goal from Rhys Henry. Joseph Bloomfield put a good ball down the wing for Miles Powell. A perfect cross in found Henry on the edge of the box and a sweet strike from the number ten flew past Luis Tibbles and in to the back of the net. Bury had a great chance on 15 minutes with a free kick on the edge of the box and Tommy Robinson hit a stunning strike which Jack Spurling managed to palm over the bar. 2 minutes later a lively Ollie Hughes played a pin point pass in to the box for Ryan Horne. With the keeper beaten the shot lacked power and pulled up short close to goal and was soon cleared out of play. Horne was involved again on 25 minutes with a delightful turn and strike inside the box but the defence was quick to throw bodies in front of the well hit strike. On 33 minutes a ridiculous decision by the Ref on 33 minutes saw Robinson sent for an early bath with a straight red for Bury. A soft tackle that was not worthy of a yellow card was deemed a straight red card after the ref’s decision was being heavily influenced by Felixstowe’s Stuart Ainsley. This changed the game and It soon declined in to less open game. With the momentum lost the half fizzled out up to the break.

On 49 minutes with the ball bouncing around in the Bury box Miles Powell took a shot through a crowd of players and found the back of the net. 3 minutes later it was 3-0 to the home side with Rhys Barber finding the back of the net. Stuart Ainsley had another chance for Felixstowe on 59 minutes with a free kick in a good position, but he could only send his shot high over the bar. On 62 minutes Ryan Jolland went on a run down the wing and put a decent cross in to the box but with no one there for Bury to make use of it. Ten man Bury were putting in a shift and on 64 minutes Ryan Horne hit a low free kick around the wall and past the keeper to pull a goal back for Bury. Felixstowe’s Jack Ainsley was sent off on 70 minutes after he picked up his second yellow for a dangerous challenge. with both teams now down to 10 men Bury kept the pressure on and finished the game strongly. On 72 minutes Tanner Call hit a great strike from inside the box which the keeper paled over the bar. Then on 82 minutes Emmanuel Machaya had a chance for Bury but his off-balance shot went high over the bar. Felixstowe took the win at the final whistle and for Bury, having to play most of the game with ten men was an uphill struggle but there were plenty of positives for Bury to take from this game.
