Bury Town came from behind to claim 2nd place in a dramatic last day of the season

At the start of play Bury Town could have finished anywhere from 2nd to 5th in the playoff places and needed a win to ensure home advantage in the playoff semi-finals.

Redbridge pushed Bury Town all the way throughout the game. A bright start to the game from Redbridge saw them take the lead early on when a free kick from Joseph Elliott was sent in low, around the wall and saved by the legs of keeper Charlie Beckwith but the loose ball was pounced on by Solomon Ogunwomoju who scored from close range.
Bury had to be patient and continue to play their game. On 10 minutes Ryan Jolland played a good ball forward for Cemal Ramadan to run on to but Redbridge 'keeper Sebastian Barford was out quick to collect the ball.
On 12 minutes another Bury attack saw Joe White send the ball forward for Ryan Jolland who ran into the box but he shot straight at the keeper who held the ball well.
Bury had a double chance on goal on 26 minutes when Oliver Yun made space for himself to shoot but Barford made a good save but the ball went loose and Cemal Ramadan was there to add a follow up shot which was also save well by the Redbridge number 1.
Redbridge broke forward on 38 minutes with goal scorer Ogunwomoju working the ball into the box but he sent his shot into the side netting. Ayo Odukoya had another chance for Redbridge on 40 minutes when he got into the box but his shot went high over the bar.
Bury 'keeper Charlie Beckwith had to be at his absolute best as the first half was ending. First on 45 minutes Louie Johnson set up Solomon Ogunwomoju to shoot but Charlie Beckwith made a superb save.
Then in injury time a long throw in to the box was hammered goalward by Louie Johnson from close range but Charlie Beckwith made another incredible save.

(As it stood at half time – with Bury Town and Bowers & Pitsea both losing Bury were sitting in 4th place and Bowers had dropped from 2nd to 3rd Bury were looking at an away game against Bowers in the semi-final. Felixstowe & Walton were wining and had taken over 2nd spot. Bowers would need to win to take back 2nd place but this was now also true for Bury. It was all to play for second half for Bury Town)

The second half got underway and it was Bury who made a fast start and on 48 minutes Luke Brown sent a low ball into the box which Cemal Ramadan chased down and after beating the defender he put his cross to the penalty spot which was headed home by Ollie Canfer.
Bury were level and need to push on for another goal. Then on 53 minutes Cemal Ramadan got on the end of a long ball and went on into the box to smash his shot off the underside of the bar and in to give Bury the lead they so badly needed.
Redbridge continued to push Bury all the way. On 57 minutes a cross into the Bury box was headed over the bar by Ayo Odukoya. Bury went back on the attack on 60 minutes, an attack that ended with Ed Upson shooting just wide of the post.
On 67 minutes Louie Johnson sent a decent cross into the Bury box which went all the way through and just wide of the far post. On 73 minutes Redbridge had an excellent opportunity to level the game but Louie Johnson put his shot from inside the box over the bar.
Bury had a big shout for a penalty on 80 minutes when Max Maughn was sent tumbling just inside the box but the referee waved play on.
A late scare for Bury came on 90 minutes when a cross into the box gave Joseph Elliott a free header at goal but Ethan Mayhew saved the day for Bury as he headed the ball off the goal line.
Bury had done enough and with Bowers & Pitsea unable to turn things around in their game Bury claimed 2nd place in the league in a dramatic last day of the season.
