Background:Bury Town open their 2022-23 Pitching In Isthmian North Division season with a visit from Hashtag United. The Blues will be looking to build on their FA Cup Extra Preliminary round win at Lakenheath last weekend which saw a number of debuts from new signings.

Manager Ben Chenery had to say ahead of the opening game; "I'm really optimistic in terms of moving on from last season, predominantly due to the new personnel brought into the football club, the biggest changes we've had, so that's given us a different atmosphere and look in training and on the pitch," he said, "so we're really looking forward to it as a group and as a football club. Injury News: The Blues will be without Ollie Fenn and Ryan Jolland (injury) and Joe Hood is serving the second of a three match suspension carried over from last season.

Bury Town started the game brightly with some good passing and movement but soon found themselves behind on 18 minutes when Sam Bantick found the space to open up the Bury defence and the scoring with a good finish.
On 26 minutes Hashtag went on the attack with Jermaine Francis flicking the ball on to Sam Bantick but he put his shot in to the side netting.
Bury went on the attack after 36 minutes with Ross Crane getting down the wing and bringing the ball inside to find Cemal Ramadan but his shot from distance went high and wide.
Ben Brookes went on a driving run for Hashtag on 38 minutes and got in to the box, but Ryan Jolland was on hand to make the challenge and collect the ball. Ben Brookes was back in the thick of the action again on 40 minutes when he broke down the wing and put a good cross in to the box for Luke Hirst put an important headed clearance from Will Gardner sent the ball back up field.
The second half was more of the same with both defences on top.
On 50 minutes a long throw in from Ben Brookes almost found Luke Hirst but Brooklyn Kabongolo headed clear for Bury.
On 65 minutes Luke Hirst hit a superb strike from distance which went over the defence and past Bury 'keeper Lewis Ridd and in to the top corner of the net. Bury nearly pulled a goal back on 88 minutes when Jake Chambers Shaw’s effort from close range was cleared off the goal line by Thomas Anderson. Bury rarely tested Hashtag keeper Anthony Page Hashtag did enough to take the points and Luke Hirst’s goal alone was worthy of winning any game.

Stadium Directions: Leave the A14 Junction 43, signposted to central Bury St Edmunds. Once clear of the exit roundabout, follow the signs to Town Centre. Take the first exit at the next roundabout (after 300 yards) into Northgate Street. At the second set of traffic lights (T - Junction), turn left into Mustow Street and first left into Cotton Lane, past the Hawkes garage and the Drive Car Showroom. Carry on down to the bottom of Cotton Lane and turn right in the council car park. The Atalian Servest Stadium is at the far end of the car park, situated on the left hand.
