Bury Town extended their lead at the top of the BetVictor Isthmian North Division as they beat Romford 3-1 at a very wet Denny Bros Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues victory was largely down to a fast start to the game in which they found themselves 2-0 ahead in the opening 25 minutes. The first goal came after 18 minutes when defender Joe White was quickest to prod home a loose ball from close range to give Bury the lead.
That led was doubled with a great individual goal in the 23rd minute with a great individual goal from 'man of the match' Jake Chambers Shaw (pictured) when he twisted and turned and fired a low shot across Jack Riddell into the net. Bury should have extended their lead before the break when Chambers Shaw crashed a shot against the bar after Ryan Jolland had hit the post.
Romford made a brighter start to the second half and made it interesting when Inesh Sumithran headed in from close range to give Boro some hope but it was substitute Max Maughn who made the game safe for Bury when he struck a low shot into the corner of the net after a pass from Jolland to seal the points for the Blues and another successful afternoon for Ben Chenery's side who now sit 5 points clear at the top.
