In the sixth instalment of this feature, Richard Williams talks to us about his new U13 JPL side.

The other target is a way off but still important to keep in mind stems from a conversation with Alan Lee, I asked what he wants from me as a coach/manager, to win? Focus on development? His answer was "your role is to prepare these players to play first
- Richard Williams

DK: Could you give us a bit of insight into how the team came to be set up?

RW: I have been running feltwell for some time now in the fantastically run NCYFL (Norfolk combined youth league) which has been great, we have always wanted to ensure that we were testing the boys at the highest level possible so in 2019 i started looking at clubs that were as keen as us to progress and Bury town FC certainly fits that bill, From the first conversation with Jason Day it just felt right and even though we havent started yet the support i have been given has been superb from all at the club.

DK: Could you give us a bit of an update of how the team is currently coming together?

RW: As with everyone our best mad e plans have been scuppered somewhat with covid 19, we had planned to have 4/5 open sessions completed in early  2020 with some games organised to give all players that registered the same opportunity with the squad selected by june to start our pre season mid July, we managed to get it 2 open sessions that i have to say were buzzing with nearly 30 players with some real talent on show. We cant say when we will start again but what we can promise is that as soon as we get the go ahead we are very keen to get going again.

DK: What targets do you have for the new season?

RW: Its not something I have thought too much about to be honest, we know its going to be tough which is exactly what we want, I suppose whats springs to mind for targets is to remain true to ourselves and the way we have always played which is to get the ball down and play at a high tempo. The other target is a way off but still important to keep in mind stems from a conversation with Alan Lee, I asked what he wants from me as a coach/manager, to win? Focus on development? His answer was "your role is to prepare these players to play first team football" which is great to hear as it makes you realize that all the Bury Town FC youth teams play a big role in the future of the club.

DK: Can you give us some insight into the league you'll be competiting in and what opposition will you be coming up against?

RW: Bury Town Have been hand picked to join the newly formed JPL East region(junior premier league east region) which is testament to the club and the only Nationally run youth development league. I must say we are so pleased to be part of this and very excited about the challenges ahead. In regards to opposition those that i believe are confirmed are Needham market Academy, Lowestoft Academy, Kings Lynn Town, FFE(Future football Elite), The other Teams that have been mentioned by the JPL east region lead Duncan Wheeler are also some of the biggest clubs in East Anglia!!
