Bury Town’s learning curve back in the Premier League continues as they put in another competitive performance but late goals from the visitors denied The Blues a well-earned point
After a good start to the game from Bury they fell behind on 13 minutes when a high lob from out on the wing from Riley O’Sullivan sailed high over the keeper’s head, bounced in the goal mouth and ended up in the back of the net. Bury were not discouraged as they kept creating attacking opportunities. On 26 minutes Max Maughn worked the ball up the pitch and almost found Ethan Mayhew on the edge of the box but a foot in from a defender got the ball clear of danger. On 29 minutes Bury attacked again with Mikey Davis sending a good ball through to Harley Curtis but George Carline made an important interception. A quick attack from Bury on 36 minutes saw Ethan Mayhew put a beautiful cross into the box for Mikey Davis but his shot to the near post was deflected wide. Bury were enjoying a lot of possession as they kept the ball well. On 40 minutes Max Maughn and George Quantrell linked up well just inside the box but Devon Kelly Evans made a vital challenge to deny George Quantrell the shooting chance. On 42 minutes George Quantrell put a good cross into the box for Ethan Mayhew but Elliott Taylor was out quick to snatch the ball from the air. Harborough had a chance just before the break when a free kick was sent into the box and Ben Stephens shot was saved well by Charlie Beckwith.

Second half Bury picked up where they left off first half and were soon looking to attack. Then on 57 minutes Bury got the goal they deserved when a good through ball from Tommy Hughes set up Harley Curtis who went past the defender then past the keeper and found the back of the net with a good strike. Another attack on 59 minutes gave Bury a great chance when a ball into the box landed between Cemal Ramadan and Goerge Quantrell but neither could get a clean strike on the ball and it went just wide of the post. Substitutions midway through the half from the visitors reinvigorated Harborough’s desire going forward and Bury had to defend in numbers to stay in the game. A good opportunity for Harborough came on 73 minutes when both Riley O’Sullivan and Jutorre Burgess broke into the box but got in each other’s way and the result was a soft effort on goal which was easy for Charlie Beckwith to collect. Then on 87 minutes a long throw in to the box broke kindly for Paul Malone who toe poked the ball into the back of the net. Bury fell further behind in added time when they failed to clear the ball from deep in their own half and paid the price when Bradley Hickey found the back of the net again for Harborough with a good low finish. Bury will feel very disappointed that they could not get at least a point from the game but Harborough Town finished the game on top and took their chances when they came to claim all three points at the final whistle.
