Two goals in the opening 10 minutes set up Blues win over Basildon

Bury Town manager Ben Chenery was happy with his sides performance and result as the Blues recorded a 3-1 victory over Basildon United on the opening day of the 2019-20 Isthmian League North season.

Bury were in the box seat within 10 minutes thanks to a 2nd minute goal from Cemal Ramadan and that was followed up with a strike from Ryan Jolland after 9 minutes.

Ben had to say "It was important to get off to a good start today and we certainly did that. I had told the players to get on the front foot and we got a great foothold in the game with 2 goals in the opening 9 minutes, some of our football was excellent"

"We should have been 3 or 4 goals ahead after 20 minutes with Taylor Hastings and Ollie Fenn both having good chances"

"When Basildon went down to 10 men, they raised their game and we got a bit complacent and allowed them to pull a goal back. It was sloppy from us and we didn't pick their man up, but I knew we had more than enough to see us through"

"A great goal from Ollie Hughes gave us that important 3rd goal and saw us over the line. We should have scored more goals in the second half and certainly had another 4 or 5 good chances but I am happy with the win and a good starting block for the season"

Bury continue their new campaign at Witham Town on Tuesday evening, kick off 7:45pm.
