Bury Town return to action for the first time in over 4 months with Hadleigh victory

Bury Town returned to action for the first time in around 4 months as they were given the opportunity to take on Thurlow Nunn League side Hadleigh United in a behind closed doors friendly at the Denny Bros Stadium.

The Bury Town side was the same squad of players that played in the now curtailed 2020-21 season, minus goalkeeper Joe Rose who has returned to Norwich City so Ben Mayhew and Under 18 keeper Joe Wilson played a half each.

Hadleigh United, managed by former Bury assistant Christian Appleford took the lead through Dan Hammatt in the first half after chances had been created at both ends. Bury were able to turn the game around as close ranged finishes from Jake Chambers Shaw and Cemal Ramadan saw Bury go into the half time break leading 2-1.

The first half had been end to end but Bury were able to stamp their authority on the game in the second half and put Hadleigh under pressure. Ollie Hughes replaced Ramadan up front but despite some chances, Bury were unable to find a third goal.

In a rare second half attack Hadleigh were able to draw level with a low shot across Wilson in the Bury goal and into the corner of the net.

Bury's lead was restored when Harry Brown was able to pounce on some hesitant defending and score when through one-on-one with Hadleigh United 'keeper Nick Punter and Bury sealed the game in the final minute when a young trialist Ben Haddoch scored with an excellent shot into the top corner in what turned out to be a useful exercise for both sides.

The Blues will return to play Hadleigh United at the Millfield ground for a pre-season friendly in early July.
