FA Cup · Extra Preliminary Lakenheath 0–4 Bury Town Sat 6 Aug 2022 · The Nest Match centre

Bury Town got their FA Cup campaign underway with good team performance at The Nest in Lakenheath

A hot afternoon in the sunshine at local side Lakenheath did not deter both teams from giving their all. Lakenheath started on the attack.
On 2 minutes a lofted ball into the box from Lakenheath saw Tom Thurlborn go one on one with Bury keeper Lewis Ridd, the Bury number one getting enough on the ball to make the clearance. Bury won an early corner which was played in the box by Charley Barker and Charlie Johnson pulled a good save from Charlie Beckwith as his header went goalward. Bury were on the attack again on 13 minutes with Will Gardner crossing the ball to Cemal Ramadan in the box, some good defending by Tom Debenham had Ramadan searching for a sight of goal and his shot went just over the bar.
As the half continued to many wayward passed did not allow the game to flow but it still had the look and feel of a competitive local cup tie. Both side trying hard to get off the mark, defending well and attacking in numbers whenever they could.
On the half hour Bury started to take control of the game. Max Maughn getting forward for Bury and his pin point pass found Cemal Ramadan in the box but more solid defending from Tom Debenham defected the shot wide. Bury were now finding more chances going forward and on 39 minutes they made the breakthrough. A loose ball in midfield was collected and controlled well by the chest of Max Maughn who went on to assist Cemal Ramadan in the box and his cool low strike beat the keeper to give Bury the lead at half time.

Second half Bury kept the pressure on Lakenheath from the start. On 49 minutes Ryan Horne’s flick past his marker saw him break forward and find Cruise Nydazayo on the wing but the cross in to the box went too close to the keeper and he made a clean catch. Cruise Nydazayo got down the wing again on 54 minutes and put another good ball in to the box but this time no one was close enough in the box to take advantage for Bury. Cemal Ramadan put in a Captain’s performance and always looked dangerous with the ball at his feet and on 55 minutes he went close to his second goal, working the ball in from the wing he got into the box but his shot went inched wide of the base of the far post.
A quick counter attack from Lakenheath on 59 minutes saw Tom Thurlborn and Kaine Manels link up well on the wing but the cross in went too deep and Will Gardner cleaned things up at the back for Bury.
On 62 minutes Bury doubled their lead. Another quality assist from Max Maughn again found Cemal Ramadan in front of goal and he finished with style past Charlie Beckwith. Bury did not have to wait long for their third goal and what a goal it was. On 68 minutes Cruise Nydazayo showed what he is capable of when he picked up the ball in midfield and hit a screamer from distance which rifled past the keeper, giving him no chance as the ball hit the back of the net. Max Maughn rounded off his Man Of The Match performance on 83 minutes, battling hard to win the ball back and pushing on in to the box he grabbed Bury’s fourth goal with a good finish.
Bury Town are in the hat for the next round plus there were lots of positive to take from the game for the Blues. A good all round team performance with the new faces and the old working well together to bring home the win for Bury Town.
