Mildenhall Town (A)

A point a piece as local derby draws a blank

Missed chances and some great goalkeeping was the order of play in the latest local derby. Both sides found it tough going in front of goal while both keepers played a solid game. On 5 minutes a good cross in to the box from Joe Carden for Bury saw safe hands from Mildenhall keeper Jake Hayhoe. The next attack was at the other end with a decent cross in to the box from Andrew Camilo-Tayaca that found the head of Tom Debenham but Bury keeper Luis Tibbles was all over the headed effort. Another attack from Bury on 10 minutes saw Ryan Jolland put a great cross in to the box looking for Ollie Hughes. A poor clearance went to Jake Chambers Shaw on the edge of the box put he put his shot wide. Another good cross in from Jolland on 12 minutes found Carden in space but his shot spun high up in the air and the chance was gone. On 16 minutes Ollie Fenn went close for Bury hitting a good strike from distance which went just over the bar. Chamber Shaw hit a good low effort a foot wide of the post on 18 minutes. Jake Hayhoe showed safe hands again on 30 minutes climbing the highest to collect the ball from a corner in from Jolland. Carden played another good chip to the far side of the box on 34 minutes looking for Hughes but the ball has too much pace as the ball ran out of play. A rare mistake from Hayhoe on 37 minutes saw him spill the ball in a crowded six-yard box but quick reactions meant he collected the ball with a follow up save. On 40 minutes a mistake at the other end saw Luis Tibbles miss kick a clearance straight to Matt Hayden who worked the ball in to the box, Kyran Clements made a superb block from Hayden’s first strike and Tibbles made up for his error with a fantastic save from close range from Hayden’s follow up strike. Chances were there for both sides, but the half would end goalless.

Mildenhall got more in to the game second half as they found more space to break forward playing downhill. On 47 minutes Jarid Robson broke in to the box for Mildenhall and had his shot deflected out of play. On 51 minutes Robson whipped a cross in to the Bury box but Bury back line stood firm a headed clear. A free in a dangerous area for Mildenhall on 52 minutes was put in to the far post by Joe Asensi but with no one close enough the ball went just wide. A quick attack from Mildenhall on 57 minutes gave the home side a double chance to open the scoring. Camilo-Tayaca put a great cross in to the box for Robson but his miss kick spun of his boot and fell to team mate Hayden who pulled his shot wide. Bury soaked up the early pressure and were soon creating chances again. On 62 minutes Joe White got forward and in to the box and tested Hayhoe at his near post with a curling effort that when just over the bar. In the next attack Ryan Stafford got forward in to the box and tried to cut the ball back to the edge of the box but the defence cleared the danger. Jake Chambers Shaw worked for ball inside the box for Bury on 65 minutes and hit a low strike to the near post and Hayhoe made a good stop with one hand to send the ball out for a corner. Sandro Costa Dias Fernandes broke forward for Mildenhall on 77 minutes and got in to the box but a well-timed sliding tackle from Ryley Scott took the ball cleanly away from danger. Bury were reduced to ten men on 85 minutes when Ryan Jolland picked up a second yellow card and was sent on his way. A late chance fell to Mildenhall on 90 minutes when Camilo-Tayaca put a good cross in to the box put James Seymour headed over the bar from inside the six-yard box. The points were shared at the final whistle as the gamed ended in a rare goalless draw for Bury Town.
