EVERY PLAYER COUNTS FOR TOWN'S COMMUNITY TRUST
Ipswich Town Community Trust have teamed up with The Football League Trust and The New Football Pools to launch a brand new Ability Counts initiative called Every Player Counts which will work to improve self-esteem, confidence, fitness and the overall well-being of those involved.
Jennifer and Oliver Danby from The New Football Pools came to Ipswich Town's home match against Derby County on Saturday 31st October along with Chris Pringle, Football Development Manager at Suffolk FA and Mark Pearman from AFC Sudbury, to present a cheque for £60,000 to Ipswich Town Community Trust Chief Executive Terry Baxter, which will kick start this new project. The Trust's Ability Counts programme will work to develop football opportunities for adults throughout Suffolk, who have learning difficulties, physical difficulties or mental health issues, by launching an Adult County Disability League including a number of Charter Standard Community Clubs in Suffolk.
Working in partnership with Suffolk FA, the project will deliver training sessions, matches and the chance to establish new teams to compete in the league, along with opportunities for volunteers to get involved.
Trevor Collins and The Bury Town Disabled Football Team, who will be a part of this new Adult County Disability League, came along to Portman Road ahead of the match to demonstrate the kind of training sessions this brand new initiative will have to offer.
The New Football Pools has developed a longstanding relationship with community football projects during its 86 year history investing a total of £530 million into British football. Marketing Director Jon Sheehy said: "We are delighted to build on this legacy and support Ipswich Town Community Trust's disability football projects through this fantastic new Every Player Counts Initiative, ensuring The New Football Pools is even closer to the game that we have supported over the decades."
Ipswich Town Community Trust Chief Executive Terry Baxter added; "The partnership between the Football League Trust and The New Football Pools can only help to strengthen and extend the wide ranging disability football opportunities we deliver through our Ability Counts programme. This initiative is all about making sure that those who want to take part in sport and in our case football have the support and facilities to do so, irrespective of ability".
