06/11/2009 - Press Release - Every Player Counts

MEDIA NEWS FROM IPSWICH TOWN COMMUNITY TRUST

Monday 2nd November 2009

EVERY PLAYER COUNTS FOR TOWN'S COMMUNITY TRUST

Ipswich Town Community Trust have teamed up with The Football League Trust and The New Football Pools to launch a brand new Ability Counts initiative called Every Player Counts which will work to improve self-esteem, confidence, fitness and the overall well-being of those involved.

Jennifer and Oliver Danby from The New Football Pools came to Ipswich Town's home match against Derby County on Saturday 31st October along with Chris Pringle, Football Development Manager at Suffolk FA and Mark Pearman from AFC Sudbury, to present a cheque for £60,000 to Ipswich Town Community Trust Chief Executive Terry Baxter, which will kick start this new project. The Trust's Ability Counts programme will work to develop football opportunities for adults throughout Suffolk, who have learning difficulties, physical difficulties or mental health issues, by launching an Adult County Disability League including a number of Charter Standard Community Clubs in Suffolk.

Working in partnership with Suffolk FA, the project will deliver training sessions, matches and the chance to establish new teams to compete in the league, along with opportunities for volunteers to get involved.

Trevor Collins and The Bury Town Disabled Football Team, who will be a part of this new Adult County Disability League, came along to Portman Road ahead of the match to demonstrate the kind of training sessions this brand new initiative will have to offer.

The New Football Pools has developed a longstanding relationship with community football projects during its 86 year history investing a total of £530 million into British football. Marketing Director Jon Sheehy said: "We are delighted to build on this legacy and support Ipswich Town Community Trust's disability football projects through this fantastic new Every Player Counts Initiative, ensuring The New Football Pools is even closer to the game that we have supported over the decades."

Ipswich Town Community Trust Chief Executive Terry Baxter added; "The partnership between the Football League Trust and The New Football Pools can only help to strengthen and extend the wide ranging disability football opportunities we deliver through our Ability Counts programme. This initiative is all about making sure that those who want to take part in sport and in our case football have the support and facilities to do so, irrespective of ability".

If you would like more information about this brand new initiative or would like to get involved, please contact Warner Duff on 01473 400556 or e-mail warner.duff@itfc.co.uk

Match Report by Brian Wadsworth

The Bury Town Under 18 lads came back from twice being behind to record an amazing victory over their professional opponents.
Walsall were well on top from the start and missed several half chances to take the lead.
Nick Pope was busy in the home goal and Daniel Hitching cleared off the line as the visitors pushed forward.
The deadlock was broken on 28 minutes when Bury failed to clear a free kick and George Bowerman scored.
Walsall continued to press and Jed Winfield cleared off the Bury line.

Half Time: Bury Town 0 Walsall 1

Pope was soon in action again after the break and made three great saves to prevent a second goal.
Against the run of play in a rare Bury break, Jack Minns got clear in the 62nd minute to get Bury back on terms with a cool finish.
Walsall stormed back and regained the lead on 70 minutes when Jamie Patterson slipped the ball past Pope from close range.
It was all Walsall, but Bury did look dangerous on the break and Minns had an effort cleared off the line.
In an amazing last six minutes, substitute Matt Chaplin got an equaliser for Bury with virtually his first touch on 84 minutes and three minutes later provided an inch perfect pass for Andy Nugent to slide the ball into an empty net as the keeper came out.
Bury held on to record a famous victory and set up another home tie with Macclesfield in the next round.

30/10/2009 - Under 18's into FA Youth Cup 1st Round

FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round

Bury Town progressed to the next round, and a home tie with Walsall thanks to a 15 minute hat trick by Jack Minns
For most of the first half neither side looked like scoring and neither keeper had a shot to save. Then on 39 minutes, Matt Chaplin fed Jack Minns, and he rounded the keeper to give Bury the lead.
Three minutes later Minns got clear down the right and his low drive was too hot for the keeper to handle.
Bury created several chances at the start of the second half, and they made the game safe after 54 minutes when Minns again got clear of the defence and fired a low drive into the far corner.
The visitors fought hard for a consolation but were unable to beat Pope in the home goal

06/10/2009 - Youth Team defeat Kirkley in FA Youth Cup
FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

Bury Town Under 18's progressed to the next round in a game in which both defences struggled to contain the opposing forwards. Bury took the lead on six minutes with a header by Matt Chaplin following a corner.
Kirkley then equalised after 12 minutes through Ryan Crisp.
Bury then took control and a great 25 yard free kick by Archie Watson restored their lead. Further goals by Luke Ingram and Watson gave Bury a 4-1 half time advantage.
Despite Bury having more of the play, it was Kirkley who scored next when Alex Holmes took advantage of a mistake in the home defence on 53 minutes.
After several chances had been missed, Bury finally wrapped up the scoring in the final minute with a long range effort by Jack Minns.
