Single goal enough as Bury Town take the win

Bury Town did enough to secure their first win of the season and move up to eleventh in the league. Bury started strong and were soon on the attack with Joe White putting a good cross in to the box on 5 minutes which was just too long for Ryan Horne to head home. On 10 minutes White again put a good cross in to the box this time for Tanner Call to hit a first-time strike but Soham keeper Josh Pope made a good save. Bury took the lead on 22 minutes with a clever goal from Call, Ollie Hughes beat his marker and got to the edge of the box and put a simple pass in to Call who put his shot between the legs of Pope to open the scoring for Bury. On 31 minutes Jake Chambers Shaw played a great through ball in to the path of Call who shot just wide of the far post. Hughes went on a run in to the box on 33 minutes and made it to the six-yard box but his low pass back in to the box was cleared by the defence. Call had another chance on 39 minutes with a stunning strike from distance that was heading in to the top corner but for a brilliant one handed save from Pope. Bury finished the half in front but it was all to play for second half.

After the interval Soham got more in to the game but a great second half performance from stand in Bury keeper George Bugg was to deny the visitors anything from the game. On 51 minutes Joe White put a dangerous cross in to the box from out wide which Pope did well to palm out of play. A minute later the ball was at the other end with Soham on the attack, a deep free kick put in by Ryan Auger went inches past the head of Lee Chaffey and out of play. On 62 minutes Auger was clean through on goal with just Bugg to beat but put hit shot high over the bar. Both sides were down to 10 men on 71 minutes when a dangerous challenge from Soham’s Lee Chaffey sparked off a bust up on the pitch which saw Chaffey sent off with a straight red card and Ryan Jolland sent off for picking up his second yellow card. On 78 minutes a double chance for Bury came with substitute Ryan Gibbs getting on the end of a good pass in to the box from Chambers Shaw. Pope did well to save not once but twice to deny Gibbs and Bury their second goal. A minute later it was Bugg pulling off a great save from Bury from a Auger free kick which flew goalward and was saved by the outstretched Bugg. A thumping shot from Soham on 86 minutes was met again by the hand of Bugg who pulled off another incredible save. Bury held out to take the win and their first three points of the season to move them up to eleventh in the league.
