Darren Mills ends Bury Towns losing streak

Bury went in to this game on the back of four straight defeats and needed to get a win to get back on track. A scruffy first half lead to rare chances in front of goal as both sides battled hard to win the ball. On 4 minutes Thomas Robinson hit a free kick for Witham just wide of the far post. Witham had another chance on 12 minutes with John Watson shooting wide from close range. Ollie Hughes powered in to the box for Bury on 21 minutes but a solid tackle from Tyler Corlett cleared the danger for Witham. Cemal Ramadan got in to the box on 23 minutes for Bury but was off balance and hit soft shot was easy for Witham keeper Bobby Mason. Another fleeting chance for Bury came on 26 minutes with a corner cleared only as far as John Kennedy was smashed goalward by Kennedy in to the path of Bradley Barber who only had to get a touch on the ball but missed and the ball went harmlessly out of play. Correy Davidson broke down the wing for Witham on 36 minutes but shot high and wide. A late Bury free kick was headed over the bar by Barber who had taken up a good position in the box.

After the break Bury looked more determined to get a result. On 60 minutes Ramadan got on the end of a long ball and was in on the keeper but Mason made a great stop. Ollie Hughes had a great chance on 63 minutes with a dipping header that had Mason back tracking to tip the ball over the bar. From the corner Ollie Fenn headed over the bar. Witham had the ball in the back of the net on 65 minutes only to be ruled offside. On 66 minutes Bury made the break through. Ollie Hughes showed great desire as he broke down the wing and in to the box and found Darren Mills unmarked in the box to smash home the opening goal. Bury were denied a clear penalty on 82 minutes when Hughes again went on a run into the box and was brought down but the Ref and both linesmen missed it and the Ref waved play on. Another chance for Bury came on 86 minutes a long ball over the top found Mills in on the keeper but Mason made another good save. Bury took a narrow win but a much needed win it was to end their poor run of form with three points.
