Bury Town take the win but late Canvey Goal lead to a nervy last ten for the Blues

A man of the match performance from Bury Town loanee Jack Lankaster help The Blues to a home win on a bitterly cold Suffolk afternoon. Canvey Start on the front foot and on 4 minutes Luis Tibbles had to be at his very best to deny George Sykes who got on the end of a corner and hit a decent strike from close range. Joe White tried his luck from out on the wing for Bury on 5 minutes, but his shot come cross was just to high as it hit the top of the goal net. Sykes had another great chance on 21 minutes for Canvey but lost control of the ball at the vital moment. Tibbles did well on 30 minutes when a corner whipped in went close to the crossbar and Tibbles showed a strong hand to clear the ball. On 36 minutes Tevan Allen went on a run thought the center and to the edge of the box but could only shoot wide. just before the break Sam Collins should have scored after a good build up saw him close to goal with the ball at his feet but his shot went wide.

Half Time: Bury Town 0 Canvey Island 0

After a goalless first half Jack Lankaster took just two minutes to stamp his mark on the game, after a good build up from Bury, Cemal Ramadan played an inch perfect ball though to Lankaster and a cool finish from the Ipswich Town debutant broke the dead lock on 47 minutes. On 58 minutes a beautiful long cross from Ollie Hughes found Ramadan coming in at the far post but he shot wide. on 64 minutes a terrific strike from Sykes flew towards the goal but a stunning save from Tibbles denied the Canvey number nine a goal. It was Lankaster involved again for Bury Towns second as he looped a long cross over to Tevan Allen running in at the back post to net Burys second goal on 71 minutes. An 82nd minutes goal from Mitchell Gilbey after some slow reactions from the Bury back line and some late pressure from Canvey lead to a nervy finish for Bury but The Blues saw out what was a very competitive game in very poor weather conditions and took the win.
