Local derby ends all square as Bury Town score late penalty rebound

An entertaining game ended in both side sharing a point. This was a typical derby game with chances for both side throughout. Bury started quickly with Tevan Allen getting in to the box in the first minute but he could only hit the side netting with his strike. On 7 minutes Ryan Jolland put a corner in for Bury to Ollie Hughes but Hughes effort was too high as it went over the bar. Hughes broke through on goal after 14 minutes and forced a great save from Sudbury keeper Jake Jessup. Joe Whight went close for Sudbury on 16 minutes heading just wide from a corner. Ollie Peters opened the scoring for AFC Sudbury after a defensive slip from Bury and Peters had a clear sight at goal and fired the home side in front on 23 minutes. On 34 minutes Hughes again broke forward for Bury and played the perfect pass to Cemal Ramadan who hit a solid strike which Jessup saved with his feet. Just before the break Hughes got down the wing and put a cross in for Ramadan but Ramadan’s shot lacked power and was an easy save for Jessup.

The game continued to entertain with chances at both ends. On 50 minutes Ramadan got in to the box but his shot was saved well by Jessup. A quick break from the home side on 60 minutes saw Peters nearly get his second but he could only shoot wide. on 61 minutes Tevan Allen showed superb skill to get through the Sudbury defence and set up Hughes to strike but his shot sailed over the bar. On 74 minutes Noel Aitkens put a great cross in to the box for Bury but in a crowd of players it was a defensive head that got to the ball first to clear the danger. Darren Mills got on the end of another good Bury attack and beat the keeper but put his low shot the wrong side of the post on 77 minutes. Bury were then awarded a penalty when Cemal Ramadan was pulled back when through on goal, and shortly after Jessup was booked for kicking the ball away from the penalty spot before the kick could be taken. Cemal Ramadan stepped up and scored at the second attempt to draw Bury level in the last minute of normal time. Bury almost grabbed a winner at the death with Mills heading just wide from a corner. The draw was a fair result in the end as both side had the chances to take the win in this game.
