AFC Hornchurch take a deserved win

Bury Town were second best for most of this game as the league leaders breezed past the Blues to secure another three points. Bury had chances but Hornchurch had this game under control from the start. The home side took the lead with just 10 minutes on the clock after a quick break from Matthias Fanimo and an equally quick cross in to the box found Leon McKenzie to fire low past Luis Tibbles and inside the post. Bury looked dangerous on the break but are still lacking the cutting edge up front. on 26 minutes Darren Mills got in to the Hornchurch box and tried to find Cemal Ramadan but the well-organized Hornchurch defence we in no mood to give anything away. At the other end McKenzie went close to a second goal on 30 minutes but for a superb clearance off the line by Kyran Clements. After a couple of half chances from Bury Hornchurch extended their lead on 36 minutes. Olumide Oluwatimilehin hit the cross bar and Nathan Living was quickest to react with the follow up to double the lead fore Hornchurch.

After the break Bury came out fighting but not after a beautiful solo effort from Fanimo put Hornchurch three goal to the good. Fanimo picked up the ball in midfield and left everyone for dead as he worked his way up field, in to the box and shot past Tibbles. Ryan Jolland made an impact for Bury as he tried to get forward at every opportunity. On 57 minutes Jolland got down the wing and won a corner for Bury which was headed just over the bar by Ollie Hughes. On 65 minutes Jolland linked up well with Noel Aikens and Hughes again went close to pulling a goal back for Bury. On 71 minutes Jolland found Hughes in the box but Hughes scuffed shot was never going to beat Sam Mott who was in good form. An incredible run from Hughes on 81 minutes saw him go past four players across the box get in round the back and hit the post with a thumping strike. Tommy Robinson came off the bench and liven things up for Bury as he dribbled in to the box on 88 minutes but again the solid Hornchurch defence cleared the danger. AFC Hornchurch march on with another three points and for Bury they were up against one of the best sides in the league at that showed throughout this match.
