Ten man Bury suffer another defeat as Canvey snatch the late win

Bury Town record another defeat after a spirited game. the chances were there for Bury but poor finishing and poor Refereeing would cost the Blues again. Bury got going with a good chance on 4 minutes with Ollie Canfer chipping the ball over the defence and in to Darren Mills in the box but the chip was too long. On 10 minutes the action was at the other end. Great skill by George Sykes on the left go him in a position to cross in for Mitchell Gilbey but the cross was an inch too high for the header. Gilbey went close again a minute later shooting just wide of the far post. Returning Ollie Hughes was in the action on 17 minutes for Bury going close to heading Bury in front but for the quick reactions of Canvey keeper Ashlee Jones. In form Bury keeper Luis Tibbles showed his worth on 19 minutes with a block save from close range by Gilbey. A determined drive forward and cross in from Joe White on 30 minutes for Bury had Mills heading in the box but another great double save from Jones kept Bury out. Hughes broke in to the box on 37 minutes but with three defenders on him the ball was cleared. Canfer tried his luck from distance for Bury on 30 minutes putting his shot just over the bar. A glaring chance for Canvey was squandered on 44 minutes with a dangerous cross in across the face of gaol but Gilbey could not make contact for an easy goal.

Half Time: Canvey Island 0 Bury Town 0

Second half saw too much involvement from the Ref with stoppages plentiful which disrupted the good football we had seen in the first half. On 51 minutes Canfer put another good chip over the back line for Mills but a close call offside stopped the move. Mills was involved again on 58 minutes showing skill to get in to the box and hitting a powerful strike but Jones was there with the stop. On 65 minutes another glaring miss this time from Burys Ryan Jolland closing in on a cross to the box but he shot wide when he looked curtain to score. George Craddock missed another chance for Canvey on 67 minutes heading a dangerous free kick high over the bar. Joe Yaxley pushed forward on 70 minutes the pacey move saw him find Mills on the edge of the box but the ball stuck under his feet and the chance was lost. Mills picked up a yellow card on 73 minutes which he would come to regret and 3 minutes later he picked up a soft second yellow which ended his afternoon. It was uphill for ten man Bury from this point but they kept pushing forward when they could. Canvey took the lead on 80 minutes from a defensive error which gifted a chance to Gilbey for an easy goal. Bury pressed until the end but Canvey saw the game out to take the win. In a game which was influence far too much by the officials poor decisions for both sides, Bury will feel hard done by as the take another defeat and Canvey go on to another three points.
