Bury fail to capitalize against a defensive Aveley side

Bury Town record a rare goalless draw as they fail to convert their chances at Ram Meadow. Aveley set their stall out early and defended well throughout the Game. after a slow start from Bury Cemal Ramadan picked up the ball and found Noel Aitkens out wide on 10 minutes, Aitkens cross in to Luke Read in the box was just too strong. On 13 minutes Aitkens again got down the wing and played a low pass in to Read but Jack Barry cleared the ball. Aveley did have the ball in the Bury net on 18 minutes, Michael Osei netting from close range only to be ruled offside. on 23 minutes Darren Mills found Aitkens with a clever chip over the defence and Aitkens put the ball across the face of goal but no Bury players were on hand for a tap in. Jerimiah Maja broke through the Bury defences on 34 minutes but hit the side netting with his strike. In the next attack, it was Bury on the break. Ramadan chasing a long ball could not get past Mark Twemisi who made a great block. Aveley had a chance to take the lead on 37 minutes when a long ball from Barry fell at the feet of Nathan Korenateng who was in on goal but Bury keeper Luis Tibbles made the save. Just before the break Bury had late chances to grab the lead with Read crossing in for Bradley Barber at the far post but Rhys Madden made the save. Another chance for Bury fell to Read heading in a Barber corner but another good save by the keeper saw the half end goalless

Half Time: Bury Town 0 Aveley 0

Bury were livelier second half as they chased the opening goal. on 46 minutes Ramadan and Joe White linked up well and White put in a sweet cross to the far post the going a foot wide of the goal. Barber put a great ball in for Read in the box on 49 minutes, Read beat the keeper but put the ball wide of the post. A mix up at the back from Bury on 53 minutes gave the visitors a chance when Leon Ottley-Gooch and the keeper were not on the same page and had Tibble scrambling to clear the ball from the goal line. Aitken was at the heart of another Bury attack on 56 minutes and putting in another great low pass in to the box this time Read failed to make contact sliding in. A free kick for the Blues on 61 minutes from Ramadan flew the wrong side of the post. Bury had the better of the chances but couldn’t find a way through the Aveley back line. The closest Bury came to a goal fell on 81 minutes when a great clearance off the line by Billy Coyne denied Bradley Barber the goal that could have won the game for the home side. Bury will see this game as two points dropped but it was a impressive defensive display by the visitors.
