Ollie Snaith double strike puts Blues out of the League cup

Bury Town make another early exit from their cup competitions this season after two goals from Ollie Snaith was enough to send Needham through to the next round. The Ryman Premier side started quickly, on 9 minutes Callum Harrison broke through the center but put his shot wide. Tom Debenham cleared off the line for Bury on 13 minutes from a dangerous cross in from the wing. Nick Ingram chipped a ball over the defence and in to the path of returning Bury Town forward Ollie Hughes on 15 minutes but the defence cleared the ball before Hughes could get hit shot away. A minute later Hughes became provider for Ingram but Ingram’s well hit strike hit the post. Bury had a clear penalty shout on 19 minutes when Ingram was bundled over in the box but with no help from the lineman the Ref disagreed and waved play on. Needham took the lead on 25 minutes after a poor clearance fell to Ollie Snaith and his strike sailed past Bury keeper Neil O’Sullivan and in to the net. Bury had a half chance on 36 minutes when Hughes crossed in to the box and the keeper spilt his clatch in to the path of Ingram but the keeper recovered well to save at feet. Needham went close to doubling their lead on 38 minutes with a free kick from Jack Curtis but O’Sullivan made the save from his powerful strike.

On 52 minutes Jolland had two chances to score from inside the box but James Bradbrook made a great double save to deny Bury the equalizer. Needham doubled their lead on 53 minutes from a corner in from Ollie Snaith which beat everyone and ended up in the back of the net. Bury struggled as Needham took control of the game and Snaith tried a shot from out wide to complete his hat trick but his shot went just wide of the far post on 63 minutes. a good build up from Bury on 73 minutes saw Tevan Allen play a quick pass to Luke Read who chipped a ball over to Ollie Hughes in the box but again the Needham defence read the play well and cleared the ball. Noel Aikens hit a shot from distance on 74 minutes which went inches over the bar. With time running out Bury had a late chance on 85 minutes when Josh Mayhew saw an opportunity to chip the keeper but the back-tracking keeper got his fingertips to it to but the ball over the bar. Needham took the win at the final whistle and go through to the next round and Bury go out of their last cup competition of this season and now have just the League to play for.
