A double brace from Mayhew and Read sees Blues end the season in style

Two first half goal apiece for Josh Mayhew and Luke Read gave Bury Town a winning end to an up and down season. From the kick off, Ryan Jolland flew down the win and his cross in was perfect for Mayhew on the box by Mayhew headed over the bar. Jake Gordon went close for the home side on 15 minutes, hitting a free kick to the near post but Neil O’Sullivan made the save. A slick Bury attack on 20 minutes allowed Luke Read to put Mayhew in on goal in the box. Mayhew hit his strike with venom but Ashley Harrison made a great block save which rebounded back to Mayhew for a header but again Harrison made the save. Bury were linking up well and on 34 minutes took the lead. Noel Aitkens plying in Read and Mayhew heading home from close range. 4 minutes later Bury were 2-0 up. Mayhew took advantage of a slip up at the back from Wakering to shoot low past the keeper. A stunning strike from Ricky Evans almost halved Bury’s lead on 40 minutes, but for an equally impressive save from O’Sullivan with his leg. On 42 minutes, a great long ball from Ryan Yallop found Mayhew on the edge of the box and Mayhew played in Read to slot the ball past the keeper. Read got a second on 44 minutes after Mayhews strikes was too hot to handle for the keeper and Read fired home from the follow up.

Half Time: Gr Wakering Rovers 0 Bury Town 4

A more even game second half as Gr Wakering fought to get back in the game. Keeper Ashley Harrison made a great save from a curling strike from Josh Mayhew on 47 minutes to deny Bury a fifth goal. Jake Gordon hit a fantastic strike on 62 minutes which was flying in to the top corner and Neil O’Sullivan was at full stretch to get a hand to it. Another good save from Harrison prevented Ryan Jolland from extending Bury’s lead on 63 minutes. Gr Wakering pulled a deserved goal back on 70 minutes and gave their loyal supporters a great goal to remember as Neil Richmond smashed home from close range after a good spell of attacking from the home side. On 80 Jake Gordon thought he had pulled another goal back with a sweet shot but it was ruled out for offside. Ricky Evans hit a free kick with power on 87 minutes which was heading in but for another good save from the Bury keeper. A comfortable win in the end for Bury as they end the season on a high and send their traveling fans home happy to enjoy their summer break.
