Bury Town fought hard for a deserved Premier Division point in this evenly contested game at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon. Kingstonian had the better of a quiet opening, but failed to trouble Marcus Garnham in the Bury goal until the 20th minute with a shot by Sam Clayton. Bury settled, but neither side looked like breaking the deadlock with most of the play confined to the midfield area of the park. Bury’s closest effort came from Lee Smith, but it was well blocked by keeper Rob Tolfry. Bury had the better of the closing minutes of the half but failed to break through.
Half Time: Kingstonian 0 Bury Town 0
Kingstonian had a good chance at the start of the second period, but Garnham saved well from Bobby Traynor at close range. Substitute Louis Rae Beadle then fired over from a good position as the hosts pushed forward. Bury again came back strongly and took the lead on 78 minutes. John Sands got clear on the left and was tripped as he got to the bye line. The resultant penalty was converted by Lee Smith. Kingstonian immediately returned to the attack and Garnham saved at full length before they equalised on 80 minutes with a fine low drive from the edge of the box by Beadle. Both sides went all out for the winner, and Sands had a good chance to clinch it but fired wide with only the keeper to beat after receiving close attention from his marker.
