Goals from Read and Mayhew get Bury back on track

Bury Town move back level on points at the top of the table with a late winner from Josh Mayhew. Haringey struck first with just 8 minutes on the clock when David Olufemi broke down the wing and hit a stunning strike from out wide in to the far side of the net giving Neil O’Sullivan the Bury keeper no chance to make the save. The lead lasted just 4 minutes and Bury pulled level. A Bradley Barber corner was met by a thumping header from Luke Read on 12 minutes. Adrian Markus got past Andrew Cusack on 18 minutes and was in on goal but his shot was save spectacularly with one hand by the Bury keeper. Noel Aitkens set up Ryan Jolland for the home side on 27 minutes but Jolland put his shot high and wide. Bradley Barber went close on 32 minutes, Ollie Hughes won the ball and set up Barber but his curling effort went wide. Bury finished the half strong with Barber putting a free kick in to Tom Debenham in the box on 42 minutes, Debenham shot wide. Barber won a free kick added time for Bury and stepped up to hit a shot past the keeper but also an inch wide of the far post.

Harringay had chances early in the second half and nearly got themselves back in front on 48 minutes. Rakim Richards was through on goal but his point-blank shot was save brilliantly by the Bury keeper. On 51 minutes Daniel Aristidou broke down the wing and hit a pacey shot just over the bar. Bury weathered the early storm and were putting in an improved performance. The introduction of Josh Mayhew from the bench gave Bury the better chances late on in the half. On 78 minutes Mayhew was through on goal but shot wide. Mayhew got around the back of the defence a minute later and found Noel Aitkens with a low pass but his shot was blocked by the defence. Barber and Mayhew linked up well on 85 minutes with some slick passing to set up Luke Read in the box but again the defence cleared the danger. Bury snatched the win late when on 86 minutes Tevan Allen’s throw in found Bradley Barber who crossed the ball to Mayhew in the box and the Bury striker smashed home the winner. Bury had a good shout for a penalty in added time when Jolland was clearly brought down but the officials missed it. Jolland quickly got to his feet to play a great chip over to Mayhew in the six yard box but the high ball was volleyed over the bar by Mayhew. Bury Town move level on points at the top of the table and continue to hold third spot.
