Bury Town win sees Blues hit top spot

Bury Town put three goals past table toppers Phoenix Sports and replace them as league leaders. The game started quickly with both sides having early chances. on 2 minutes Christie Pattison played a cross in to Alastair Gordon in the box but Bury keeper Neil O’Sullivan was equal to the shot and made the save. A minute later Bury went close after a long throw by Darcy Death found Josh Mayhew close to the far post but to much power sent the ball over the bar. On 12 minutes the home side had a chance when Pattison hit a strike from outside the box but again O’Sullivan made the save. A great through ball on 17 minutes by Bradley Barber left Mayhew with just the keeper to beat but quick reactions from Steve Phillips enabled him to make the block save. Bury took the lead on 22 minutes from a corner in from Barber which Tom Debenham headed home. Phoenix should have been level on 35 minutes when Ben Francis found himself with an open goal but shot wide from inside the box. a later chance for Bury was Remi Garrett power down the wing and play a great pass through to Barber but a scuffed shot from the Bury captain was easy for the keeper to collect.

Bury continued to pressurize Phoenix in the second half and on 51 minutes Remi Garrett great work out on the wing set up Tevan Allen to strike just over the bar. Another good chance fell to the home side on 53 minutes but a brilliant save by O’Sullivan denied Gordon the equalizer. On 58 minutes Josh Mayhew got the ball in the box but some solid defending cleared the danger. Bury looked dangerous with every attack and on 60 minutes a skilful move from Garrett and Mayhew setup Ryan Jolland to volley inches over the bar. On 72 minutes a dangerous free kick for Phoenix saw Ashley Sains head wide from close range. Bury extended their lead on 78 minutes with Darcey Death putting a long throw in to Luke Read who held the ball up well before playing in Bradley Barber to slot his strike low past the keeper. Bury were still passing well as they continued to press high with Garrett dominating his position out wide on the wing. Garrett went around his marker and found Josh Mayhew who put the game out of re3ach of the home side on 81 minutes with a well hit strike in to the back of the net. A entertaining game finished with Bury Town getting the win and taking themselves to the top of the Ryman Division 1 North
