Bury Town lose ground in the League as they drop to third

Bury Town drop to third place in the League after a heavy 3-0 defeat. Norwich Utd were lucky not to be down to 10 men after just ten minutes when Jamie Speller followed through on Bury keeper Neil O’Sullivan with a dangerous challenge but the ref deemed it only a yellow card offence. After a scrappy first 15 minutes if was the home side who opened the scoring. Poor defending from Bury let in Shaun Wones to hit Norwich in front on 16 minutes. On 20 minutes Norwich almost increased their lead but returning Andrew Cusack cleared of the line from Liam Jacksons cross in to the box. Luke Read had a chance for Bury on 23 minutes when he got in to a good position and fired a shot from the edge of the box but the keeper made the save. Norwich doubled their lead on 28 minutes when a failed clearance fell to Speller who put his strike past O’Sullivan. A familiar long throw from Darcy Death on 32 minutes saw Ollie Canfer head just over the bar for Bury. Luke Read played a great ball in to Remi Garrett in the box on 38 minutes but again the keeper made the block. Bury then suffered another injury blow as Ollie Canfer went off just before the half time whistle with a back injury and a not fully fit Sam Reed came on to replace him.

With a mountain to climb second half Bury came out fighting but the lack of a fit striker was to cost them any real chance of a comeback. Bury did restricted Norwich to hardly a shot on target second half as they went in search of goals. A long throw in from Death on 61 minutes found Luke Read but his effort was too easy for the keeper who made an easy catch. Read was unlucky for Bury on 65 minutes when he back healed a looping ball over the keeper’s head and hit the bar. A minutes later a Bury free kick was headed over the bar by Read. Bradley Barber played a good through ball to Sam Reed on 69 minutes but Reeds shot was saved by the keeper. Another mistake at the back saw Norwich substitute Emmanuel Machaya win the ball and go through on his own to score a third goal for the home side against the run of play on 82 minutes. Ryan Jolland worked the ball through to the edge of the box on 90 minutes but again the keeper got his hand to it. Norwich recorded a 3-0 win in a game that was fairly even on the pitch but the big difference was Norwich finished off the chances that came their way. Bury lose their second league game in succession and another key player picked up an injury with Ollie Canfer joining the ever growing injury list.
