AFC Hornchurch end Bury Towns unbeaten league run

Bury Town lost their first game in the league this season but had chances to get something from this game. Blues injury list is still growing with Josh Mayhew the latest addition to Burys injury worries. Darcy Death had Burys first chance on 19 minutes when he broke through the Hornchurch defence but the keeper was quick to get out and clear the danger. On 21 minutes Luke Reed hit a thumping shot from outside the box which was blocked by an arm inside the box but the referee waved play on. Two minutes later Bury were awarded a penalty for high studs from Alex Bentley. Noel Aitken stepped up to take the spot kick but his strike was straight at the keeper and was an easy save. Nick Ingram had a chance for Bury on 26 minutes taking up a good position in the box but he could not control the ball and it was cleared by the defence. Next was Ryan Jolland for Bury on 28 minutes with a low hit strike but again the keeper got down well to save. The first goal went the way of the visitors, a defensive error let in Abs Thompson to cross into the box and Ayrton Coley fired Hornchurch in to the lead on 34 minutes. Bury kept Hornchurch limited to few chances on goal throughout the first half but it was the visitors who went in at half time with the lead.

Half Time: Bury Town 0 AFC Hornchurch 1

Second half AFC Hornchurch saw more of the play and it wasn’t long before they put the game beyond Bury when another defensive error gifted them a second goal. a poor back pass was intercepted by Coley who went on to score his second goal. Bury kept going and on 53 minutes a high cross in to the box found Tevan Allen in the box but his looping header was an easy catch for the keeper. Thompson almost increased the lead for Hornchurch on 56 minutes but he pulled his shot just wide of the post. Another chance for the visitors fell on 62 minutes, Thompson again involved, playing a dangerous cross in across the face of gaol but no one was near it to put the ball in the net. Bury looked more dangerous going forward with the introduction of Remi Garrett from the bench. On 64 minutes Garrett played a cross in to the box for Reed but he never got the ball under control to make it count. Bury were caught out again at the back on 74 minutes, with Bury keeper Neil O’Sullivan caught out of position and Leon McKenzie had an open goal but his snap shot went wide. Bury suffered their first league defeat of the season but defensive errors and a missed penalty cost them from getting something from this game.
