All too comfortable for Spalding in the end as Blues exit the cup

Bury Town made a quick exit out of this seasons FA Cup. After Blues dominated the first half three second half goal saw Spalding make it through to the next round. Bury started the game strong with some good chances coming early on. On 9 minutes Josh Mayhew linked up well with Ollie Hughes who played a perfect cross to Tevan Allen out wide. Allen testing the keeper with a solid strike. Mayhew had a go himself on 12 minutes but again the keeper saved the well hit strike. Hughes then tried to make something happen as he worked the ball in from the wing to the penalty spot but the defence were quick to stop the Bury striker. Bury then lost first Ollie Canfer and then Josh Mayhew through injury within 10 minutes of each other which changed the game. Bury had to re shuffle quickly and lost their momentum. Bury did have two late chances in the half with Ryan Jolland showing great skill to work the ball from out wide in to the six yard box but played his pass behind Sam Reed who had taken up a good position in the box. In added time Remi Garrett went down the wing and crossed in to Ollie Hughes but the cross was just to high for Hughes to make contact.

After a goalless Blues again started well. Garrett set up Hughes on 47 minutes but the keeper made a good save. A minute later Bradley Barber put a corner on to the head of Hughes which went just over the bar. For all Bury’s efforts it was Spalding who made the breakthrough on 53 minutes. A free kick from deep on the left wing was put in the net by Bradley Well who took up an unmarked position on the far side of the box. Bury had a great chance to equalise on 66 minutes. Ryan Jolland picking up a clearance that saw the Spalding keeper Michael Duggan outside his box, Jolland played a high ball goal-ward which was heading in the empty net but for the quick reactions of the defence who headed off the line but only to Hughes who headed over. Wells put the tie beyond Bury on 73 minutes netting his second after a mix up in the Blues defence which left Dan Heath stranded and Wells looped his header over the Bury keeper. Bradley Barber tested the keeper late on with a curly effort which Duggan saved at full stretch. Bury struggled to find their game again and Andrew Wright put Spalding further ahead on 85 minutes firing home from a cross field pass which found him in space inside the box. Bury go out of the competition early as Spalding made it through to the next round and ran out comfortable winners at the final whistle.
