Flat performance by blues gives Peacehaven an easy afternoon

A superb strike by James Brotherton was enough to seal the win for Peacehaven. Bury looked like they were suffering a hangover from their good performance against Kingstonian. Too many long balls from Bury made for very little action up front and an easy afternoon for Peacehaven keeper Anthony Di Bernardo. With just 5 minutes on the clock Peacehaven had their first good opportunity Evan Archibald getting through the blues defence but could only flash his shot across the goal and out of play. Another scare for Bury came on 14 minutes when James Frasers lofty optimistic lob from distance hit the top of the bar although Marcus Garnham did have it covered. Bury did have a couple of chance in the first half. First Russell shorts perfect forward pass found Steve Holder in the box but before Holder could get it under control defender Dan McLaughlin put if safe for Peacehaven. Next was Blues best chance of the game, Russell Short created a great chance for himself picking up the ball from midfield he opened up some space just outside the box and unleashed a missile of a shot which cracked against the bar. Peacehaven took the lead on 42 minutes with a goal worthy of winning any game. Jon Marzetti ball over the top of Blues defence found Brotherton who ran in the box and put his shot across Garnham and in to the top corner.

Burys game deteriorated after the break and became long ball after long ball and never seriously tested Di Bernardo in the Magpies goal. Blues boss Ben Chenery did try to go on the attack bringing on Remi Garrett and Jack Brame to help out Holder up front but the pair did not get the service they needed and made little impact. On 66 minutes Lloyd Cotton almost made it two after Fraser went around the Blues defence and found Cotton in the box his shot forcing a good save out of Garnham. Not much of a spectacle for the spectators but Peacehaven took the points and Bury fans make the long trip home empty handed and disappointed with the second half performance. Burys passing game was none existent in the second half and the long ball tactics did not work for Bury today and gave the Peacehaven defence an easy afternoon.
